The Sanctuary Museum (formerly known as The Museum of Divine Statues)
12905 Madison Ave, Lakewood, OH 44107
The Sanctuary Museum is located in the former St. Hedwig Church in the Birdtown neighborhood of Lakewood, OH. The church was founded in 1905. After closing in the 2000s, it was converted to a museum in 2011. The Museum inspires visitors by preserving the wonders of the Catholic faith and heritage through religious art and artifacts and by serving as an educational archive for the community. Artwork and artifacts, refurbished by Owner and artisan Lou McClung, are available for up-close viewing. Stained glass windows pull in rays of light, illuminating Joan of Arc adorned in battle armor, Saint Lucy, who carries her eyes on a plate, and the bleeding, arrow-filled chest of Saint Sebastian. The museum’s centerpiece is a statue of the 13th-century martyr Saint Nepomucene. The Museum is open to the public on Wednesdays from 10:00 to 2:00 and on Saturdays from 12:00 to 4:00. Admission is $12.00. It is a hidden treasure, not to be missed. The Sanctuary Museum is located in the former St. Hedwig Church in the Birdtown neighborhood of Lakewood, OH.
