Let me start off with I don't usually write reviews, let alone bad ones, but I feel obligated to protect other clients from Dr.Tanner's unprofessionalism. For starters she was never been on time to any one of my 23 appointments, she has always been 10-20 minutes late to each of our sessions. She has very poor time managment. When you finally do get in to see her, she tries to get you in and out of there as soon as possible, to her time is money. Secondly, she has outragous cancellation policies and fees. In order to cancel an appointment you have to call within two buisness days (not 48 hours, which is almost impossible to do with the hours she's open) or face an $100 fee, and she won't work with you even if it's a family emergency, you're short on money or you have a job interview. I've never in my life been charged a cancellation fee, yet alone one for canceling 48 plus hours in advance. I was charged $100 for missing an appointment the day my brother was born (she refused to help me out at all) and I just missed a very important job interview because I didn't have $100 to spare for another cancellation fee (yet again, she had no interest in helping me out or even try to understand where I was coming from. Thirdly, she is very unprofessional in her work. On my first appointment she seemed to had "diagnosed" me within 15 minutes, and started writing out perscriptions for mood stabalizers and anti-psychotics that were in too big of doses for me. Every appointment since then has basicly been all about my meds - Are they working? Do I need to add more meds on? Change the type of mood stabalizer? I never once was advised by her to take less, and when I started refusing to take these mass amounts of pills that gave me bad side affects, she did everything she could in her power to convince me that I needed them in order to function. I refused anyway, and she was very upset and told me that I was "bound to go in a downward spiral". Also as long as therapy/counseling goes there was very little of it, I was always in and out and my appointments were all about my meds. When it did happen she often passed judgement on me, making faces at things I said and also has called me "dumb" and "immature" on several occasions. She also liked to told me that I "just don't seem tounderstand what's going on" and she loves to throw in her opinions and views on things. For your own well being I would stay away from Dr.Tanner. She is one of the most unprofesional people I have ever met, 0 stars for her.

Dr Tanner has done an excellent job reviewing my care and continuing my meds. I had a difficult time finding a professional that could meet my needs and the insurance companies. Her diagnostic skills are superb. But she may not share the diagnostic procedure as much as some people might like. She quickly gets down to business and fixes things.

The worst thing for a parent to hear is that your child is gone... This was an adult son but never-the-less, the feelings are the same. Dr Tanner was Johnny-on-the spot returning my call right away, listening to my story and her office called 2 prescriptions in for me. A few weeks after the funeral, my medications were changed. Having weekly visits in the beginning and then over time I was switched to once a month and then I felt I was ready to go it on my own. Thank you Penny Tanner for getting me through something I never thought would happen to me.

I began seeing Dr. Tanner nearly five years ago. Initially I had frequent visits, which were much needed. I now go about once every three months, just a visit to check on my well being and medication. My medication has always been adjusted to suit my needs, I honestly believe she has monitored it well, because I continually felt better. Today I feel great, I credit Dr. Tanner with my successful outcome. I have recommended her to friends, and I do not hesitate to encourage you to see if she is a good fit for you. As for the folks who left bad reviews, I see some of those were quite some time ago. I have never been keep waiting too long, and the office is certainly not filthy. I have never had problems with unusual fees.

I have been seeing Dr. Tanner for about a year now and she has made such a possitive change in my life. She has taken the time to get to know and understand me the direction that I would like my life to go. She has been a great help in getting me there. I highly recommend her to those looking for someone stable and trustworthy to have your best interest in mind.

I was referred to Dr. Tanner by a family friend that has been a patient of hers for years. Her office is very friendly and helpful. I felt that Penny was knowledgeable on different treatment options and willing to work with me towards my mental health goals. I look forward to future visits and feel confident of a rewarding outcome.

Negative Stars!!!!!!!!!!! If you enjoy a detached, emotionless, medication monitor, this gal is for YOU! In my first half hour visit, she prescribed a medication that had a severe interaction with one of the meds that I was already taking, even though she had been given a list of my current medications, this put my health in jeopardy! My MD had to call her to point out her mistake!Since my illness has involved being away from work, the FMLA & Short Term disability people required paperwork periodically, she will charge extra for doing this paperwork and, depending on the insurance company you have, it may not be accepted as she is NOT a Psychiatrist. The RN in charge of my case was told that Dr. Tanner charged separately for any phone calls or paperwork. This woman does not have an ounce of compassion in her whole body!! And, although she was late for every one of the four appointments that I had with her, there was never a 'sorry' or a 'thanks' and, you had better NOT be late for your appointment.They are also pushing a multi-level marketing product in the waiting room which in my opinion, is a conflict of interest! Our community has a shortage of Psychiatrists for sure but, keep looking for your own sake! This Ice Queen should NOT be in mental health at all! She has the personality of a rattlesnake!

Do not go to Bridgeport Behavioral Health! Despite the impersonal and unprofessional staff (which includes Dr. Tanner) I took my child there because all of the other referrals I was given were booked for more than a month out. That should have been my first clue, but my child needed to be seen as soon as possible. Because Dr. Tanner did find a medication that proved helpful to my child, we continued to go there despite substandard service in all other regards. Then, just a few weeks after Dr. Tanner did a routine checkup with my child, I called and asked if Dr. Tanner could simply send in a new prescription without us having to drive all the way out to the clinic (a 45 minute drive both ways) and avoid the $35 copay since we had just been there a few weeks ago. I was told that Dr. Tanner would call me back. Instead she sent a nasty letter saying that since I was "disgruntled with her services..." she would be "resigning" as my child's provider. This woman has NO idea what she is doing when it comes to being professional and running her business. It always takes at least 20 min. for me to get into my appointments. They NEVER answer the phone in the office, they take forever to call you back, they have VERY limited hours during the day ONLY and they aren't even open 5 days a week. On top of that she has ABSURD late fee policies (you must cancel your appointment TWO DAYS before it happens or she will charge you $35!). If you are so unfortunate as to get such a late fee she won't send you a bill or notify you in any way shape or form until she has given you a late bill fee a few times. If you're like me and you pay your now $45 bill immediately she will cash your check and then send you another bill several months later saying you never payed your original fee and will have tacked on several more late fees to the bill. I can't even contact her about this mess up because she doesn't answer her phone or return calls.

At one point, Tanner had me on 6 different pills. I had a card she wanted me to have scanned at every refill. The pharmacy had kept the card by accident and she was furious. I wondered if she was getting a spiff from the pharmaceutical company and me losing that card was going to hurt her money. I googled her name and found her listed on Dollars for Docs, accepting money from Astra ZenecaA. I am now with a new doctor who has adjusted my meds that Tanner had wrong. Be careful if you foolishly choose her services. You will find no genuine care in her presence. Her office is filthy and the receptionist is rude and condescending.

I would totally agree with the first reviewer except to add that not only was I over-medicated, but was told that the medication I was placed on by her was the ONLY medication for me (it was extremely expensive). When I complained about my financial problems affording the medication she tried to use fear to manipulate me to keep me on the medication and to keep me in her care. This lady should not be in this profession. Be warned! I went to my own primary care doctor, was put on a more affordable medication and am doing much better with my symptoms and finances.

I went to see her for grief counseling and ended up on three different medications. My regular doctor terminated my therapy and had to wean me off of the drugs. My aunt also was overmedicated while seeing her. Be careful.
