Antelope Valley Transit Authority began operations with three services, transit, commuter and dial-a-ride. Access services were added in 1996 to serve the disabled. AVTA operates a fleet of modern, comfortable buses and vans. Its local fixed-route buses use a low-floor design that makes it easier to get on and off the bus. Transit vehicles seat up to 40 passengers and have wheelchair positions. AVTA maintains nearly 40 local transit buses. The Dial-A-Ride service features Ford and Chevrolet vans that accommodate up to 18 passengers and four wheelchairs. AVTA maintains nearly 20 DAR vehicles. The commuter services use a mix of vehicles that seat up to 70 passengers. All of the commuter coaches are lift-equipped and feature high-back reclining seats with individual lights and venting. AVTA maintains approximately 25 commuter coaches. AVTA also maintains a contingency fleet of nearly 5 buses and nearly 10 support vehicles. Antelope Valley Transit Authority is headquartered in Lancaster, Calif.
