Provided by YP.comI've been very happy with the service I have received at Big Ray's. I've been going there for 2+ years, and they are always helpful and I trust these guys not to push me to get extra work. They make recommendations on my routine maintenance but I never feel pressured. They understand that most the time I am there just to get a quick, cheap oil change - and that's what they provide. I think these guys do great work and I'm sad that I will have to find a new oil change place now that I'm moving out of state. I'm sure I won't find anywhere near the same kind of deal!

Provided by YPmobileI've been going to Big Ray's for about a year now and find it kind of sad that only bad reviews get put up on the site. They've always provided excellent service and better prices than any other place in Lansing. Ive always been informed of extra charges before they perform any services and I have never been pressured to buy anything. They tell me what needs done and if I have the money to do it I do. I recommend them to anyone that is looking for services and will continue go there myself for the foreseeable future.

Provided by YP.comWatch your bill! They are insane adding bogus fees. Example: 2013 Grand Caravan:
$16.95 Oil change
$1.00 Shop Fee
$3.00 5W20
$8.99 Oil FIlter
$3.00 Oil over 5 units (quarts which is a lie!)

Provided by YP.comI went to Big Ray's due to their advertised price of $19.99 for an oil change. The attendant (very rude) named off several brands of oil and asked which one I wanted. I chose Valvoline. They tried to convince me that I needed several other services which I declined. They did nothing else but change the oil, until I requested they fill the windshield washer. No tire pressure check, etc. I was brought a bill for $35.00. I asked about the $19.99 price and was informed that was for RECYCLED OIL good for only 2000 miles. I was informed this was for their "Gulf" brand oil. I was not informed of this before the service. I filed a complaint with the BBB. I wonder how many people choose the Gulf brand without being informed that it is recycled oil? Stay away from these jokers.

Provided by YP.comStay away!!!!! They want to talk you into all kinds of stuff. I take good care of my truck...I get things done when it is needed. I have been going there for about 2 years. Now they are trying to get me to have things done over...power steering flush. ( They did it last year.) After they saw I was not going to get anything other than the oil change they got real rude. Did not even fill up the windshield washer...put in about a quart. Did not check tires, or lube truck. Last time I go there and I want to kick myself for waiting so long to make up my mind. I will be sure to share this experience with everyone I know.

Provided by YP.comI went to Big Ray's for an oil change. They talked me into getting my fuel filter replaced and having a fuel injector cleaner put into my vacuum line. When they changed my fuel filter, they must have drained off a bit of my gas tank because my needle moved significantly. They didn't put this back into my tank though. Also since having their fuel injector cleaner put into my vacuum line, my o2 sensor was burned up in the process and now my car's check engine light is on with a P0171 Code. My engine runs like crap and I have detonation going on, as well as an extreme amount of power loss and my fuel economy is shot; which was what their supposed "fuel injector cleaner" was supposed to improve. To add insult to injury, if you google around about seafoam and o2 sensors, its a known fact that these types of fuel system cleaners can burn up o2 sensors. Their mechanics claim to have never heard of this before. Autozone told me that this is very common and that they hear lots of bad reports about Big Ray's as well. I would suggest that you stay away from this place, and after a while they will go away or be forced closed. I will be filing reports with the BBB and taking them to small claims court for the repair costs I have accumulated due to their "Fuel System Cleaning". Stay away from this place.

Provided by YP.comFirst, the pros : The price for a basic oil + filter change using conventional oil is one of the cheapest around at approximately $16.95 before shop fees and taxes.
Unfortunately every single member on staff tried to get me to purchase an additional service that I had not asked for. They said my oil looked dirty and my engine probably needed a flush. I admitted that it had been about 5 months since my last change but declined the flush and asked again for just and oil and filter and that was it. They then said my air filter was dirty and should be replaced, that it may help my gas mileage. I know that it is not that dirty and again declined and again said "Just the oil and filter." Getting a little annoyed that I had to repeat myself for three times already, I had hoped their tactics were ending, but I was wrong. They then say "there is oil leaking out of the top gasket of your engine." I say "Ok, but I just want the oil and filter. I cracked a head gasket a few years ago that I never repaired and I know there is a slow leak , and it also slowly leaks antifreeze. The car is too old to put money into." (It's a '99 Sunfire)
They then condescendingly ask "Do you want to sell it?"
I say "No, it runs well for me, so I have no plans of selling it but also don't want to put any more money into it."
If you go here, you will be asked to purchase additional services. I can kind of understand why they do it, but the condescending attitude that I received after I've declared that I don't want to put any more money into an old car is unacceptable. I've had the same things happen at Fast Eddie's down the road, and it's funny that they are always different recommendations each time I go to get my oil changed. You would think if there was a real problem, it would be the same recommendation every time no matter which place I go to.
These places just want your money and are doing everything they can to upsell to you. I don't know a lot about my car, so I never know what to trust them on or not, but I would rather be skeptical and ask somebody I trust later. I suggest you do the same.
All that said, if you have the courage to say "no" you can get an oil and filter change for under 20 dollars.
