Skinner Funeral Homes was founded in 1978 by Jake and Pat Bliesner. They ran the business for only a short time when Jake Bliesner died in 1985. At that time, his wife Pat took over the management. She managed the funeral home for 22 years with the help and assistance of Bill Sherman. In 1993, Larry Skinner began working for Pat as the funeral director while operating the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids along with his wife Jill and father Max Skinner. In 2007, Larry and Jills two sons, Nathan and Jonathan, graduated from Worsham Mortuary College in Chicago. They fulfilled their apprentice requirements by working in both Chapel In the Pines and the Skinner Funeral Home. About the same time, the boys passed their State and Federal Boards, Pat was ready to retire and sell the business. With three licensed directors it was an excellent opportunity for the Skinners to purchase the funeral home. In October of 2007, the Skinner Family took over Chapel in the Pines as the new owners. I was helping a friend with funeral arrangements so I called all of the lansing area funeral homes for her. BY FAR, the most accommodating and helpful of the funeral homes that I spoke with. not only that but I was shocked to find them the most reasonable in all of Lansing as well. I know where I will go when its time for me to make these dreaded arrangements for my loved ones.

very nice staff. Easy to work with and they listen to what you want. A couple other funeral homes I talked to tried to "sell" me on different things so I appreciated the honest, up-front treatment I received from Chapel in the Pines and the director Jon, specifically, whos family owns the business and all work there. Its nice to see the family atmosphere and to be treated as such. They do things right way. I would highly recommend them to any family that needed there service

Compassionate and Caring! Chapel in the Pines was the best decision our family made for funeral arrangements. We were very pleased with the compassion there family showed ours at our lowest point. It was nice working with a family business. They just seemed to understand all of our concerns and how to treat a family in there time of need. I would strongly reccomend Chapel in the Pines to anyone who needs there services. It is VERY comforting to know that they will be there for us in the future when we need there services again.

simply the BEST! I have been ...

simply the BEST! I have been a resident of Lansing my whole life and unfortunatly I have been to my share of funerals but until just recently I never had to make funeral plans. Unlike most people I had the luxery of knowing the end was coming for my mother and had time to make funeral plans ahead of time. I called every funeral home in the Lansing area and visited a few. Chapel in the Pines was by far the friendliest and the most accomodating to us. they are a family run business and they treated us no differently. They took there time explaining to us our options which made things much easier. The funeral service was a wonderful tribute to my mother giving my entire family a satisfying sense of closure. The funeral expense was a concern to me and my siblings although not the deciding factor we wanted to get some price quotes to see what we were up against. Chapel in the Pines was BY FAR the best value and most inexpensive and not only that but they allowed us to use my mothers life insurnace policy so that we had absolutly no out of pocket expenses. Chapel in the Pines took there time with us to really personalize the funeral and our overall experience with them. The Skinner family treated us like family and we will never forget that. We highly reccomend them to anyone who needs there services. Thank you Chapel in the Pines for all that you have done and continue to do.

EXCELLENT staff! This was the most difficult thing I have ever done in my life. From the moment the directors came to our home to take my mother into there care they were nothing but kind, genuine, and sincere. When making the arrangements they went over all of our options, they did not rush us, treated us like family, and accomodated to our every wish. my mother had been sick for several months and we were a little nervous as to how she would look in her casket. she was beautiful. People could not stop talking about how great she looked! after her curagious battle she truly looked at peace. I will forever be greatful to Chapel in the Pines and the entire staff for exceeding all of our expectations.

Sick....

I would never bring a friend nor family member to this sick place.. I went to a wake there... it was a friend of mine, who passed away .. talk about Low rent .... my friend didn't even look like himself, the family was really upset... the body had a really bad smell to it ... and get this the Body was making really bad sounds.... the low rent person ended up closing up the coffin.. I was lost for words..... so was the family..... stay away from this sick place...

First, let me say, we are sorry for Shawnee's loss. It is always difficult to lose a loved one, especially under unfortunate circumstances. The ravages of disease can be unfair, and are truly saddening when they take special people from our lives. During these trying times, people often find themselves shocked and angry, respectfully however, I found myself taken aback by this review. While I can't fully understand the situation of the author, I can say with absolute certainty that none of the claims made within this review are true. In fact, I am unaware of ANY funeral home that would treat the deceased in such a manner. The satisfaction of the families we serve and respect for the recently departed are the highest priorities in our business. We would absolutely never allow a visitation without both one hundred percent confidence in our work, and prior approval from the family. I encourage anyone to stop in and speak with me, or members of my family, at anytime, whether or not you currently require our services. See for yourself; we are proud of the job we do. Serving this community for three generations and counting has been an honor, and we will continue to do so in the coming years with the same levels of professionalism and compassion, that we had in our first sixty. Respectfully, Larry Skinner and the Skinner family
