Collect Elsewhere!

Overpriced, snotty and felt like I was shopping a chain jewelry store. What looked to be a manager actually took aside our salesperson and could be heard to tell them they were wasting their time as we couldn't afford anything. Last laugh on them is that my friend has a black AMEX in his wallet and is not afraid to use it! He is a serious collector and very knowledgeable. Neither of us were impressed with either the handling and display/storage of the manuscripts and books or the fact that clearly these were not book lovers or true bibliophiles but just people looking for good marks. I don't think it would make any difference to them is they were hawking cars instead of books. My advice is not to bother with these people; they overprice if for no other reason. We will continue to use auctions and the good book fairs and suggest you do the same. The dealers at the New York Antiquarian Book Fair don't care if you wear distressed jeans and T-shirts:) No wonder I never stopped in the New York branch of Bauman...
