I took 3 old different dvd recorders to Rocky Top which would not record DVD discs and for which I was sure had no "new" parts available. One of these had a hard disk -- which means it's really old. They repaired all three -- perfectly -- even the one where the repair had no new parts available. My recommendation -- don't assume that the problem is necessarily the "obvious". My recorders would not operate at all. Therefore, I assumed that the recorders were the problem. But they were not the problem. I don't understand it -- but the real problem was mainly in the power supply. That meant that a few simple capacitors needed replacing. Give Rocky Top a chance to fix your issue. They're incredible.

I wouldn't think about bringing anything to anyone else. Jim is the guy. A total gem. I found Rocky Top after bringing my stuff to another shop and completely switched. I've been collecting high-end vintage audio electronics now for 5 years and can't imagine a better tech. He even fixed the things the other shop said couldn't be fixed. On top of everything else he will explain to you everything he did. I have learned a lot from Jim. Almost everything I have purchased on ebay has had a problem, no matter what the seller said about it. Without Jim I would have had to quit this hobby a long time ago. Most of my stuff is 30+ years old and needs work now and then. Things go wrong when you get old! Even restored pieces can find a way to go sour. Sometimes I don't understand how Jim can do what he does for what he charges, considerably less than the other guys, and you always get your piece back in just a few days. You won't find anyone more reasonable or more honest.

i own a kenwood 3500. i ad it fixed by this guy. i told him to restore it and test everything. well, all he did apparenty is clean some switches. a few months later im just listening to it and it totally blows my speakers.I call him and he seems happy to take a look,(a little too happy). he has his secretary call me back to say it will be 100 dollars to fix!!!dont fuses blow before speakers? and it was only at 25 percent power?should have fixed it right the first time. the testing equipment is there. USE IT!!. you can tell if a resister is going bad, just like a mechanic can tell you if your car has a problem before it breaks down. i think this guy is lazy and when his short-cuts dont work. its the customer that he expects to pay.should have fixed it for cost of parts only.i know christmas is coming up, but dang!!
