"Please tell me how I can make it easy for you to do business with us. I want to be your car dealer, please tell me how. Thank you!" Call Nemith Motors today In 1937, Walter and Fred Nemith began their business venture in Schenectady, NY on Nott Terrace just off State Street. It was a tin building that held 4 cars. We were in the final years of depression and money was very hard to come by. You had to completely repaint a car in order to raise $25, and straightening the whole side of a car might be worth $50. Walter Nemith showed me a bank book he saved during 1937, 1938, and 1939. It showed deposits of $.50 to $1.00 for the three year period in order to save $500, which was the down payment on Ballston Auto Parts on Rt. 50 in Saratoga ( now Mangino Pontiac ). Ballston Auto Parts consisted of 10 acres of property with a house and parts sheds and 9 acres of junked vehicles. The used parts business has always been a good business especially in hard times when people had to buy parts cheap and repair their own cars. The Nemith's operated the auto parts business and retained the body shop in Schenectady. The body shop continued to be operated by three employees. During 1940, Ballston Auto Parts began to sell used cars, and early in 1941 took on a franchise to sell New Studebakers. Business was progressing very well, and then that fateful day of December 7, 1941 appeared. With the war on, all the New Studebakers were frozen by the government, and could only be sold to someone with a Government priority document. Used auto parts became a premium commodity because there were no new parts being produced. All manufacturers were building vehicles for the Army. It was a very difficult time for the auto business. Most dealers closed their store because of gas rationing, shortage of parts, etc., and went to work at the G.E. or into the Army. The Nemith Organization began to buy cars by advertising "Cash for Your Car". People were glad to sell them because with gas rationing you couldn't drive far anyway. People wondered why Nemith was buying all these cars. They stored them in Ballston for over a year. Walter Nemith said "They aren't making any cars and people will be needing them". Sure enough, by the spring of 1943, cars began to sell. Dealers would come from all over the USA to buy the nice clean low mileage cars in Saratoga. The contacts made by having these cars would prove to be invaluable to the future of Nemith Motor Corp In 1944, 1853 State Street in Schenectady was purchased and turned into a car dealership handling used cars and Kaizer Frazer new cars. The company prospered through the post war years and acquired the Franchise for Lincoln-Mercury in Troy NY at 5th Avenue and Hoosick Street in September 1947. It was a difficult task to find property in Troy that was available and would meet the requirements of Ford Motor Co. The combining of a laundry a restaurant and a livery stable finally was adequate to house the Lincoln/Mercury dealership. In 1949 we acquired a lot on River Street in Troy to be our used car operation. The next year a showroom was added to handle English Ford, Fiat, and Triumph.

Nemith Nissan Service Dept are Crooks!

I will NEVER go back to Nemith Nissan AGAIN. They are crooks. When I called to make my appointment to bring my Nissan in to be serviced for a flashing airbag light, they never told me they would charge me $89 for a diagnostic. So, when they called me to tell me it would cost $625 to repair the problem and when I told them I did not want it repaired b/c it was too expensive, they then told me about the $89 charge, Be warned, they do NOT disclose charges to look at your car. Bottom line, do not give them business...go elsewhere.
