Because of Imperial Freight Lines, my step-son is losing most of his possessions, many of which are needed for his ailing wife and infant son.

My step-son, his wife (with health issues) and their infant son needed to move cross-country, and contracted with Imperial Freight Lines. They were quoted a price, and the amount of space they could fill. They were also told that Imperial was the moving company and not a broker. When the movers showed up, it was a contracted moving company, not Imperial. They only allowed for about a quarter of the space, and said that to take the rest would cost about 4 times as much. They had only budgeted for the amount that they had been quoted.

Imagine, being in a situation where you have packed and prepared for a cross-country move to a city you have never lived in before. Your dates for ending one job and starting another are tight, and set. You do not have the flexibility to adjust these. You also do not have the discretionary income to be able to afford a large amount outside of your budget. You do not have time to sell your possessions, nor the money to buy new possessions. Can you imagine the devastating stress that this would cause? That is what Imperial Freight Lines has done to my step son and his vulnerable family.

I believe that Imperial Freight Lines has behaved in a way which is dishonorable and unethical. This is worse than if they had lost most of their possessions in a house fire. At least then, insurance would have helped them recover. As is, they simply lose it all.

Because of Imperial Freight Line’s lies, my son, his wife and their 10-month-old baby are on the brink of losing nearly all their possessions. After taking a careful assessment of their belongings and spaces, they were given a contract to move their belongings from California to Georgia. Day before yesterday the moving truck arrived, loaded their baby’s things (but not even his crib) and stated they would need $7,000 to take anything else. Their baby’s belongings were not a tight fit for his modestly sized room. There is no good reason that they were given an estimate that  could be this far off. They did not have the $7,000 so it appears all their possessions other than their baby’s will be lost. Unless this company makes a move to stand by their agreement quickly, they will not have so much as a bed for their baby or themselves, not a towel to dry him after a bath. No pots or pans or plates. No resources to buy more. They had no time to plan for this. Had they known they could have packed differently and been selling their belongings to rebuy essentials once they arrived in Georgia. By lying, this moving company put them in a vulnerable position and then demanded $7,000 to get them out of the situation. A supervisor was supposed to call my son yesterday but no one did. I should also add that at the onset, my son asked them if they were the moving company themselves or if they brokered to actual movers. They lied. They ARE NOT the company who shows up with the truck and it seems that the moving company they contracted is a one-star company on reviews. If you are looking for a mover, do you want to risk this for yourself
