I am 6 months after my colon cancer surgery and I feel healthier than in decades. My robotic operation was easy on me, I had minimal pain, I went home in 2 days, and I kept normal intestinal function. At the same time, my doctor helped me to resolve my obesity and my tobacco smoking addiction. Now I am cancer free, without obesity and I am not smoking anymore. What I came to the doctor for. Excellent.

Several years ago I had placement of gastric band for obesity outside UTMB. Since 2014 I started having severe reflux, abdominal pain, large belly distension, nausea and vomiting. Several endocopies showed food retention and inflammation in my stomach and esophagus. Everything was blamed on the gastric band. However, deflation of the band did not fix my problem and I developed malnutrition. It happened that the problem was stomach obstruction from ulcer and scarring. Medications and endoscopies could not fix the blockage. Dr Gomez and his team arrived to the diagnosis and gave me a new connection from the stomach to the intestine. A key hole operation resolved the problem immediately. I had no pain at all. I am very satisfied for the care at UTMB with Dr Gomez and his team.

I went to ER very sick with belly pain and distension on 2/22/17. I was told that I had a bowel blockage and needed emergent surgery. In the past I had 3 major belly surgeries including gastroplasty, gastrectomy and gallbladder. Then I had a beautiful plastic surgery reconstruction and I did not want to lose my abdominoplasty. I was ready to roll into my surgery when I heard that Dr Gomez was coming to do laparoscopy on me. I was very relieved that I was in good hands. He had done laparoscopy on me before. I woke up with small incisions and little pain, and I went home in 3 days without open surgery. It means the hole world to me.

I had severe back pain and inguinal hernia. The pain was neural origin and I was prepared to reduce pain with physiotherapy. Then I had hernia repair with very small incisions which went almost pain free. I did not take more than 3 pain pills. Most importantly, I was driving in less than a week and my physical therapy was not interrupted. I am extremely satisfied with this type of surgery.

I presented to ER with severe weakness, anemia and colon bleeding from large tumor. After correction of enemia I had curative resection of a colon cancer. Recovery was quick and virtually pain-free. I am completely satisfied with the care from Dr Gomez and his team.

I was found with colon blockage and liver problems including uncompensated cirrhosis and malnutrition. I was treated until liver function recovered and nutrition corrected my proteins. Then I underwent colon resection with complete resolution of the problem. There were large polyps and contained abscess from diverticulitis. I am completely satisfied with the results.

Experience was first rate. I came in to the clinic after the initial group meeting 19 lbs shy of 300 lbs. I had trouble sleeping, I snored, my knees and joints hurt, I had High Blood Pressure, I was a prime candidate for diabetes (It runs in my family). Today I have reached my goal of 165 lbs. I followed the advice of Dr Gomez and prepared my body for the surgery with excercise and strick adherance to portion control and food choices. I still do both afetr the surgery. I can't remember feeling as good as I do today and attribute it to the truthfullness and honesty of Dr Gomez and his staff. Weight loss has a plethra of indirect benefits and I am finding this out more and more on a daily basis. I am totally satisfied. My expectations were outlined and achieved.

I came with bilateral inguinal hernias. I have laparoscopic robotic hernia repair and recovered virtually without pain, the needle stick being more painful. With no pain, less risk for infection and faster recovery represents better value for me.

Before I saw Dr. Gomez there was a lot of discussion about having pancreatic issues,or gall stones. Once Dr. Gomez

became involved the issue became a septic gall bladder and he was very insistent that it be removed at once. I believe my condition would have rapidly spiraled down without his intervention. I believe Dr. Gomez saved my life and I would trust his judgement anytime, anywhere.

My experience with the bariatric staff at UTMB has been life changing this was the single most important descision I have ever maade my life has changed for the better I am a healthier happier person to be around I strongly beleive if not for this procedure my life would have been greatly shortened I am thankful to god Dr Gomez and my family for helping me and supporting me through this process

lost weight it's encourages me to stay focus on keeping the weight off, my medication list is down and the energy is great. I can do to go to the gym at least 5 times weekly. With weight loss I am more encouraged to make healthy choices and stay on tract. This surgery has been the best thing I could have done for myself. I would encourage any one that's obese to try it. Dr. Gomez is always very good at explaining what is going on and what the plan is. He is also sure that I understand the information I am given.

Prior to the gatric bypass, my BMI was 40, I had a fatty liver, I had hypertension, energy level was low, I was tired all the time. Now, 5 years post op, my blood pressure is below normal, 90's/50's, my liver is no longer fatty, I have increased energy, walking 3-5 miles 2-4 times a week and my BMI is 28. My psoriasis has also improved. Prior to the surgery, I was using topical medications 2-4 times a week, but still dealing with active psoriasis. Currently, I use topical medications approx 1-2 times a month, and currently have no active psoriasis. My overall health has improved.

Had a tumor which was preventing me from getting a kidney transplant. Dr. Gomez remove my tumor and save me stomach and now I am back on the list for transplant.

I came to see doctors about a stomach pain, from the start I was treated with great care, upon discovery of my colon cancer Dr. Gomez (Mr. and Mrs.) jumped right to my treatment. I was never left in the dark and was always followed up by staff on my condition.

The treatment achieved therapeutic goals, relieving pain completely, allowing to eat with resolution of reflux and respiratory difficulties.

I am very satisfied with Dr. Gomez. My experience has been great. Going into this entire process I was scared inside. This is something I did not share with anyone. This transplant was to save my sister's life. He explained the entire process and what the recovery would be like. This set my mind at ease.

I got my life back. I feel healthier, more energetic, and happier. I sleep all night-no more sleep apnea. The help I received from the doctor and dietician helped me to plan healthier meals and healthier habits that aren't restrictive. I am no longer taking several medications for health issues. I think the decision to have the surgery was the most informed decision I have ever made, the staff made sure of that and they continue to care about my future and well being. I feel confident that I can remain on a healthy path with this surgery as my biggest asset. I love my nurses and my doctor. The information was very helpful in guiding my decision and I can't express enough that I would do it all over again and recommend it every chance I get.
