Provided by YP.comIn process selling home and as you know it AC goes out. Had a sellers warranty with AB May with contract so trying to do right thing called them to service unit. Come to find out Coil was leaking, very expensive repair. Knowing this, mentioned to service tech that we may not fix since buyer had full warranty coverage and we only had up to $500. Was told it was now pre existing condition and he made a note on our house not to cover it in future. So we moved forward with fixing. Went ahead and got other quoters that seemed in line but AB was still higher by a few hundred. Come to find out this price "included" warranty discount. Basically AB marked up their costs to cover this program. Service Mgr Jason Smith was absolutely no help in resolving issue, said I should have read fine print closer and admitted that AB was not price comparable to other companies. He offered no solutions, not to mention it took him several days to even return phone call after I called him 3x. This company which is tied into many local home warranties will knowingly screw you cause they know they can. My situation would have saved me several hundred if I had not used warranty program with AB May and gone with other well known company in area. Either way once tech showed up I was locked into using them. I am very well versed in home repair as I have been in the business a long time, so if they will do this to me, I hate to think what they are doing to others. Before you call them, especially with these home warranty programs, get other quotes first but expect to pay a 50% markup to use them.

Provided by YP.comI called to get a new water heater after noticing a leak. During installation, was told that I would be "rolling the dice" if I didnt' add some water pressure gadget too. So now I've paid $1000. I told the guy after just suffering a loss of a family member, I really didn't couldn't afford something I didn't need. Afterwards, the waterflow from my shower is a dribble. When the guy came out a week later to finish the job, I told him about it. He asked if I read what I signed about them not being responsible. He said he could look at it for a charge, but told me that my shower head was probably dirty.

Provided by YP.comAB May was very helpful when our air went out. With 100 degree temps, they worked quickly to resolve the issue even though we are fighting our home warranty company. AB May came out on a Sunday (Father's day) to diagnose our problem. They showed us options. Listened to our concerns and were never pushy. We made our decision on a Friday and the unit was installed Wednesday on time as scheduled. The service techs were quick and efficient. They also took time to explain routine care and maintenance. I will gladly call AB May when we replace our furnace and water heater.

Provided by YP.comAB May charged me $650 to replace the blower motor for the furnace. The motor costs around $100. So I paid $550 for their 1 hour labor
Thank you for taking the time to write, expressing your concerns about the price you were charged for your recent repair. We strive to keep our flat rate pricing system so that it benefits our customers. We want your experience with A.B. May to be a positive one. Please give us a call and we will come up with a solution regarding this issue. Again, thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you. Susan 913-901-1168

Provided by YP.comAB May has really earned my one star. My frustration with them has been compounding for a few months now. We purchased their home warranty when we bought our home in October and have called them for several issues. The first issue was with our stove that took them multiple visits, payments and 10 weeks to finally figure it out. They ordered the wrong part 4 times and finally concluded that the pilot light was not turned up high enough. We then had them come out on other occasions (to fix an issue on something that IS covered under my home warranty), charge me for the visit, to only tell me that I needed to call another company to fix the issue. AB May is an awful company and needs to get their act together.
Brian, I apologize for the inconvenience and any frustration that we may have caused. It is always our policy to take care of our customer's needs and to make certain that they are satisfied with the quality of work that A.B. May has performed. Please give me a call and we can work together to resolve this issue. We value you as a customer. You can reach me, Claire, at 913-901-1111. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

Provided by YP.comI would give ABMay the highest rating possible. A year ago, we needed to update the entire heating and cooling systems of our zoned, 90-year-old home. We got 4 estimates. Theirs was the best value for the money: they offered a better grade system for the money other companies charged for lower grade equipment. They were the only company that actually measured the air flow in our ductwork and showed us the exact calculations of what was needed. While 3 other companies told us we needed larger heating and cooling units, ABM said no, we didn't. They said our 1st-floor heating unit was actually too big for the square footage of the home and that the A/C system on the 2nd floor was adequate. They showed us exactly where air leaks were occurring and gave us 4 possible ways to go. They located rust which had created leaks in the upstairs A/C - which explained why that unit ran 24 hours a day in the summer. This was in comparison to another company whose rep just opened the attic door, stuck his head up there, and said we needed a much bigger unit plus a heat pump! (This rep was from a big KC firm.)
When our units arrived, ABMay had actually upgraded one heating unit at no charge because they had been unable to get the one we had ordered - all to get the job done on the time schedule we had requested. The work we had done, including resizing some duct work, was done at a lower price than the estimates of two other companies. The job took 2 1/2 days (to replace 2 heaters & 2 air conditioners, resize duct work, add vents in some upstairs rooms - at our request - and resize several returns). The two techs worked from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., taking a 30-minute lunch break while they ate lunch in their work van.
I cannot say enough good things about this company. No, they weren't the cheapest, but they delivered the best package for the money, and our heating and cooling bills have decreased by about 30% with the new systems. I should also say that my husband, who grew up in a family that did construction, is not at all easy to please - and he constantly recommends this company to others. I can't speak for others, but our experience was the best we've ever had with a heating & cooling company.

Provided by YP.comAB May offers to pay $500 in repairs to homes that are listed for sale. This is false advertisement. They marked the repairs up so that it looks like they are giving you $500, when in reality you are paying what you would pay any company to do the repair. I resorted to a negative post because I have tried to call management to discuss this and can't get a return phone call. The service man was professional and very polite. This $500 dollar rip off is implemented by management..
I am concerned that you are under the impression that A.B. May marked up the cost of repairs under your Seller's Warranty coverage. All of our prices are based our published standard rates. I am sorry that you were not able to reach management to discuss your concerns. Please contact me either by email or phone and I will be happy to review your specific situation with you.

Provided by YP.comI have been a customer of ABMay for 30 years. During that time they have installed 2 furnaces, 1 hot water heater, 2 air conditioners and 1 heat pump. I have had nothing but positive experiences on each transaction. The prices have not been the lowest. but I received quality products and fast, friendly and professional service. The Technicians have always been friendly, neat and knowledgeable. I had a problem with the heat pump, but it was taken care of immediately. I won't hesitate to recommend this company to my friends, or to use them again myself. I am not an employee, nor do I have any friends or relatives who work for ABMay.

Provided by YP.comWe have used ABMay for many many years before this incident. After discussing the situation below with Chuck, we agreed to a mutually beneficial solution. The lesson here is that this is a good company, and an interactive discussion may solve everything before a negative post is necessary!
Just wrote a check for almost $1600 for replacement of two water heaters. What you should know is that is after the $2000 credit for being a service plan member. After several calls to competitors, that seems to be about the price straight out without the policy designed to provide peace of mind. I urge you to get more bids. Unfortunately, I failed and wrote a big check the week of Christmas. So, without the service plan, they would have charged about $3000 for the replacement of two water heaters?
I will cancel my service plan and start urging everyone to get bids BEFORE dealing with ABMay.
Landlock99- As a valued customer we appreciate your feedback. I was able to pull up your account and I have reviewed the work you paid for. I see we replaced both of your water heaters, installed a thermal expansion tanks, replaced two flue pipes, completed an outdoor faucet rebuild, replaced a faucet, repaired a leaky bathroom faucet, and cut an access hole in the ceiling. I sincerely apologize that it seems you have over paid and to better improve our service, I would be happy to discuss this matter with you personally. My name is Chuck Sauro and I am the plumbing manager here at A.B. May. You can reach me on my direct line 913-901-1135 or my email [email protected].

Provided by YP.comTo AB May's credit, they are now working with our congregation to find a solution to this problem. The money was still spent, the results as stated below still happened, but unlike many companies AB May is trying to in fact make it right. So, this review is now modified to reflect this. No one is perfect - trying to fix mistakes is a sign of goodness or possibly even greatness. More will be said as this solution is worked out!
We paid them over $45,000 for this job...My congregation contracted AB May after seeking bids in 2008 to replace two 25 ton AC units at our Center - the Baha'i Faith Center of Kansas City Missouri. During the installation they had some issues and at first we figured it was just clumsy work to do because these are big units. Not 3 months later we continued having AC problems and had called back out a servicer from AB May to look at these brand new units and he basically said he can't work on large AC units and that AB May didn't have anyone on hand who could. Turns out that the lubricant needed to keep large compressors operating was not applied by AB May upon install. By 2009 (next summer - AC units are only used during warm weather) one of these brand new units had frozen up just after the one year warranty period from the manufacturer. AB May still denied that they had anything to do with it and now it is clear to us they were using our own ignorance of AC units against us. At this point we are filing a Better Business Bureau complaint against AB May and would urge any organization needing to have major AC work done to avoid this company because they have proven themselves to be untrustworthy and more than wiling to take advantage of congregations. If they bid lower than other contractors still stay away from them - a low bid won't fix the fact that major failures will happen because they install things incorrectly and hope you don't notice until it's too late.
Mreins, A.B. May is dedicated to resolving this issue with you and I sincerely apologize for any misunderstandings. This matter will not be taken lightly and I am looking forward to our scheduled meeting with you and your congregation next week.

Provided by YP.comRun from this company!
I was sold the bill of goods to upgrade my homeowner warranty at time of purchase to the gold policy for an additional $30. After a year, one service call which cost $60 for a washing machine issue, I have spent $360 just for the policy and now, being a year has passed, I was charged an additional $62 as the policy is a year old. Total of $412 for nothing! I could have replaced the old washer for that.
No warnings or emails that the policy was about to change. Price was going to double.
I called immediately and was told that being I didn't cancel in a 30 day period, I could not get a refund of the charge!
I have not used this company for a year...looked at it as an insurance company but now know that they are a total scam and use high pressure technique when they do come to correct a problem. First it was to sell the "better" policy, then when they serviced my heater, they were constantly trying to sell me a "better" unit, better filter...on and on.
Beware of their tactics. I will never use this company for anything and will tell everyone I know about their misleading sales pitches.

Provided by YP.comI AM an A.B.May employee and proud of it. Yes, we some times make mistakes, but let us know if we do. I've seen how this company treats its employees and its customers and it's no wonder they've been in business more than 50 years. We handle 500 to 600+ telephone calls on an average day and up to 1800+ on the first hot or cold day of the season. I wasn't asked to write this and I'm not a manager, just a regular employee.

Provided by YP.comI wouldn't recommend this company due to the fact that they came out to give a quote and once they found out that I had gotten bids from other companies the technician stated that he can only give me a "ballpark" number for the cost of a new air conditioner, and the first question was "how much you willing to spend" Needless to say I went with another HVAC company.
07/28/2011
Provided by YP.comDon't walk....RUN from this business- especially if you are replacing your HVAC units! Poor customer service, rude arrogant repair men- wow what a mistake we made!!!!!
07/22/2011
Provided by YP.comThe customer service is very bad. They do not listen to you completely and do not have proper manners. All of them from top to bottom were arrogant. One person talks one thing and the other person say different one. Stay away from them

Provided by YP.comI have an AB May home warranty that I placed a service call on.
Pros:
- Technician was nice
- I was called to let me know when someone was on their way
- The phone service was responsive
Cons:
I had the technician out to fix a problem with an outdoor faucet not working - Turned out that the shutoff valve was off. The technician said that it was fixed, charged me $60 for the visit (to turn on the shutoff valve) and left. When I went to use the faucet, water sprayed all over outside and inside the house in the basement next to the electrical box. I called back and had them visit a week and a half later (the issue was discovered this past weekend with the water spraying)- they came back out and said that apparently the lines had frozen at some point in the past so the repair was not under warranty and it would be $292 to fix it.
I already paid $60 for a visit that did not fix the problem initially and now I'd have to pay $292 to actually get something fixed. Quite annoying. Will I use AB May for anything other than warranty work - if anything does happen to go wrong that is ACTUALLY covered? No. Would I recommend for anyone to have a warranty with AB May? No. I would like to have my $60 back since the faucet was not fixed and may have jeopardized my electrical box because of the water spraying in.
I've left a message to see if I can get my $60 back, but they said that the $60 was for the visit and diagnostic fee according to the customer service people. We'll see if they call me back or not.
Update on this:
I was contacted by a manager at AB May after leaving a message and also emailing them with a link to the above. I received a call back and they did come back out and fix the problem. The manager and service person were both very nice about it. I have had AB May out to fix several things and feel they have improved. However, any time I've asked them to price any other work out, their prices seem very exorbitant. For example, I asked them to look at a problem I have with my washing machine drain backing up into our bathtub and they quoted a non-contract price of over $3000, and a "gold" customer price of ~$2000. That seems quite high to change out some lines.
So I will have them do warranty work but go elsewhere to my trusted local handyman or plumber to do other jobs because of their very high rates. So they did resolve the initial issue after posting a review and contacting their management.
I do find it odd that out of the 22 reviews on here for AB May - 12 of them were in April and May of 2010 and they were all 5 star reviews. There have only been 10 other reviews and few of those were higher than a 3. I'd rate them a 3 for home warranty repairs because each time they come out they have been professional and have taken care of things since the first issue I wrote about. I'd rate them a 1 for non-home warranty stuff based on their rates and apparent over pricing (I'd had them install an airconditioner at my old house and we had significant issues with it as well as they'd improperly sized it.).

Provided by YP.comI used this company after I had bought a home from reece and nichols. Now the terrible service and failed warranty all Makes sense... www.abmayscam.com
also look how they got everyone on their administrative staff to write a reveiw within a weeks time to improve their bad rating on yellow pages!
The reviews you refer to are not from administrative staff. They are from A.B. May customers. We strive to consistently provide exceptional customer service. If we fell short of your expectations, I would encourage you to contact me with the details so I have the opportunity to address your concerns.
