Beware - We ordered 50 meat birds from Cackle Hatchery and they started dying as soon as they arrived. There was an obvious problem with them and Cackle took absolutely no responsibility. Called Cackle twice. First call they said that we were doing everything right and problem was in transit. Called back today (like they asked) and they changed their story saying it's all our fault. I now know why they have so many negative online reviews.

I purchased 100 day old chicks from Cackle Hatchery in 1975. Only one chick died. It smothered in a pile of its siblings. During my childhood in the 1950s, my parents also purchased chicks regularly in Lebanon, and believe it was from Cackle Hatchery, since I do not know of another Hatchery located in Lebanon. Their chicks did equally well. I was delighted to find Cackle Hatchery on the internet, a thousand miles from my home today, while searching for chicken images to use as models in acrylic paintings. Good luck, Cackle Hatchery!

I have bought chicks from Cackle Hatchery since before 1999 and just about every variety. I bought for my daughters when the were growing up and I am buying for my grandchildren now. I have never lost more than 1-2 chicks and I can usually account that it was my fault. If you follow the care directions that Cackle Hatchery sends with their chicks then you will have no problems. Their chicks have always been healthy and alert.

I was flummoxed at first when my chicks started dying. Out of 25, I now, 4 weeks later, have 12 left. Of course, I blamed myself, for inadequacies perhaps in feed or housing, until my neighbor informed me that they, too, bought chicks from Cackle last year and had the same problem. They had purchased a batch of chicks from somewhere else and raised them alongside the Cackle chicks. The Cackle hatchery chicks died on them, too, with the same problems that I had, while their other flock thrived. Now I know its the source, and not anything that I've done.

I had pkaced an order with them back in March. They took the money right away. If you read the small print it says they usually ship baby chicks within 6-8 weeks. They gave me a ship date for May 16th. I had everything ready to go and I was waiting for my order on May 17th and my mom gets the call that now they are not going to get shipped until July 5th. My 5 children have been anxiously waiting the arrival of our baby chicks. I have been calling to find out why, the phone is always busy! I have sent an e-mail expressing my concerns that I feel screwed that they 1 didn't talk to me directly and 2 that they have had my money for 8 weeks already. Now they want me to wait another 7 weeks. They have not responded to my e-mail as of yet!I didn't make them wait that long for my money. I have never heard anyone waiting almost 4 months for less then 2 dozen chicks and a half dozen baby turkeys. I will NEVER order from them again. They have NO customer service SKILLS!I want a reason why!

We had canceled an order in Feb/March, because the chicks wern't going to get to us until May. On May 13, the chciks arrived. We were unprepared, and had to rush to the Post Office. Two were dead upon arrival, and two more died three days later. We spoke to them, and they acknowledged the error and would credit us the full amount. I still haven't received my credit. Will NEVER order from them again.
