Provided by YP.comThinking about the Christmas gifts and decided on Massage Heights, while I was there I got the 90 Minute Hot Stone with the Peppermint footscrub. Decided that was what I was going to treat myself at least once a month since I don't golf and that seemed to be my best way to relax. Loved it and thought why have I waited so long to give myself a present.

Provided by YP.comOne Massage at a time puts me in a new mindset each month and helps me focus on the smaller things. Maybe going to the 90 minutes next time as I heard about the foot scrub from alissi and she said she loved it.

Provided by YP.comYounger generations have embraced massage therapy as a beneficial addition to their healthy lifestyles, but seniors can also improve their quality of life by using this alternative treatment method. As the population ages, massage therapists are updating their training to include techniques designed specifically for the older client. If you, or someone you love, could benefit from an elderly massage, also known as geriatric or seniors massage, it’s important to know how this type of treatment differs from a standard massage.
The Senior Massage Difference
Although the actual techniques vary little when senior massage is compared to a standard treatment, the therapist always takes extra care to protect the aging body and ensure the comfort of the client. Before the massage starts, the therapist takes the time to help the client onto the massage table and carefully positions their body to prevent any type of fall or bruising. Once they are comfortable, the aging person is rarely asked to move until the session is over. During the session, the therapist only uses gentle manipulations that are safe for an elderly person.
In most cases, a senior massage session requires a full hour to complete, but it could take longer depending on the needs of the individual client. For example, the massage therapist must adapt their technique for clients who use a wheelchair. These seniors may need additional assistance getting to and from the therapy room or getting in and out of the chair. When the client is wheelchair-bound, the massage therapist can even adapt their technique to treat the client while they remain in the chair. These adaptations generally require a little extra time on the part of the therapist and the client.
The Benefits of Elderly Massage
During a senior massage, the therapist may spend extra time on certain areas, like the hands or feet, that often present special problems for seniors. This is especially beneficial when the senior can’t walk or use their hands fully. In these cases, the increased circulation can improve sensation and body awareness in the aging body.
For many, the key to aging gracefully is staying as active as possible. Geriatric massage can reduce the stiffness and inflammation that are often present in aging muscles and joints to make it easier for the older client to walk, sit, or engage in any other activity. Senior massage also treats many other conditions that are associated with aging including:
Arthritis
Bone and muscle deterioration
Skin discoloration
Bursitis
Tendinitis
Respiratory problems
In addition to helping with the elderly client’s physical health, a senior massage can help the client mentally, as well. Many older people are extremely lonely and depressed. The opportunity to spend time with someone who cares and enjoy a short period of human interaction is often priceless for seniors. Many clients find that a regular massage treatment designed to meet their needs improves their mood and outlook for days or even weeks.
By taking advantage of a senior massage administered by a licensed massage therapist trained in this special technique, you or your loved one can live a healthier lifestyle.

We call it Swedish but the Swedes call it ‘classic massage’ because it serves as the established model of what all massage therapy aspires to be, and because it has lasting worth. You don’t mess with perfection. Swedish massage is the best-known type and a perfect start for the first-time massage experience. Refined in manner and restrained in application, long-time customers stay with it because of its proven technique. Swedish massage has been honed to perfection over generations of use in all cultures and throughout the world.
Swedish massage employs five styles of strokes called effleurage (sliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration. The strokes are applied over large surfaces like the arms, legs, chest and back. Strokes can also be for small areas like the throat, face, hands and feet. Oils enable the massage to glide easily, smoothly and at varying pressures. The touch can be light or deep depending on the need. Greater intensity drives at deeper muscle relaxation and renewal.
Swedish massage is a highly tailored and individualized treatment defined between client and therapist. The therapist will want to know a little about you: Is there anything we need to know about your body? Have you ever had any accidents or injuries? Are there painful sore spots to be aware of? Are you taking any medications?
Finding a mutual solution - or temporary relief - is the greater goal for the body’s longevity and the purpose behind Swedish massage. At a minimum we want relief from headaches and tensions, increased range of motion, release from postural restrictions, and help reconnecting with our bodies. This wonderful Scandinavian import can help rebuild trust with our physical selves and ride through the transitions that punctuate our lives.
Besides renewing the inner spirit and putting the troubles of the day in a better perspective, Swedish massage significantly helps to reduce aches, joint stiffness and improve functions in patients with osteoarthritis. In fact, the list of benefits is impressive and comprehensive. It includes relieving low-back pain and improved range of motion; help with shorter, easier labor and fewer maternity hospital stays. Swedish massage reduces medication dependence and strengthens immunity, the body’s natural defense system. It works and stretches weak, tight, or atrophied muscles and helps athletes recover from injury or strenuous workouts.
The strokes of this classic massage technique improve the condition of the body’s largest organ – the skin – and helps enormously to reduce depression and anxiety. Tissue is encouraged to regenerate thus ameliorating stretch marks and scars, post-surgery adhesions and swelling. Circulation is improved by pumping oxygen and nutrients into vital organs. Spasms and cramping are reduced and tired and injured or overused muscles are relaxed. Swedish massage can even relieve migraine pains.
Swedish massage helps us to regain a sense of calm and it can help quiet a very noisy, even ferocious biological clock for both men and women. Let us greet you in the appropriate language for a classic massage.
