Opened in 1987, Christa McAuliffe Elementary serves more than 700 students in kindergarten through grade six. Its academic curriculum includes programs in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The school additionally conducts classes in fine arts, world languages, music and physical education. Christa McAuliffe Elementary has a library that stocks books, magazines, newspapers and other reference resources. It also offers a variety of sports activities, such as basketball, soccer, softball and gymnastics. The school s facilities include a gymnasium, playground, cafeteria, multipurpose room and classrooms for scouting groups and adult classes. In addition, Christa McAuliffe Elementary has a parent-teacher association that publishes a newsletter and organizes several fundraising events, including cultural arts performances. The school is a part of the Shawnee Mission School District.
