I recently had an unfortunate dealing with Erb's Ace Hardware and through them U-haul. At the end of Aug my son's car broke down and I had to rent a car dolly to get it home so I went to Erb's. An employee installed the dolly trailer, I finished up the paperwork and went to deal with the task of getting my son's car home. As I did the rental paperwork the gentleman that installed the trailer and the gentleman that would later claim he double checked the trailer stood in the lobby visiting with some other coworkers and wished me a good afternoon as I went out. The car I had to pick up was not running so I had to push it up on to the trailer and on the second attempt the trailer came unhitched from my vehicle, broke my back window and after hitting several other places causing damage lodged into the back hatch door. I was VERY lucky that I was not badly hurt. After I removed the trailer from being lodged in the back of my rig and back on the ball of my hitch I realized that the employee had not tightened the hand tightening system on the trailer.I installed the trailer correctly and was able to get the car home and the trailer back to Erb's without any other problems. Once tightened the hand tightening system worked perfectly. I informed Erb's of the damage and started by dealing with uhaul's insurance. I got an estimate and In the end the trailer had done over $3,000 dollars worth of damage to my rig. Uhaul's insurance company rep west has been a joke to deal with. Not one single time have I called and gotten someone on the phone and after giving my claim information never spoke to anyone again until I got a letter denying my claim "after investigation" . Mind you they do not have a representative in our area so no one saw my vehical in person or talked to any of the em[ployee's in person. It has now been over a month since the damage to the rig that I transport my kids in was damaged and despite working on it daily no one will step up to the plate and take responsibility for the damage. U-haul's insurance doesn't want to pay because it was Erb's employee that installed the trailer wrong, Erb's won't provide me with their insurance information, and while the manager Jeremy has been nothing but helpful the owner Brett Toney will not even return my call's and discuss the matter. Everyone is always encouraged to "buy valley" but if this is the service that is offered I will take my business elsewhere in the future. That is if I can get my rig fixed to drive there.
