Have nothing but good things to say about this salon. I don't go as often as I'd like or should ( probably once a month) but my hair has never been in the shape it is now. I received a thorough consult. My stylist is Shamese and she is so knowledgeable guys. I just love her. Most reviews talked about in and out and I was shocked because that is never the case in salons but sure enough, I was out in and out. I didn't have to wait hours to be seen. I love it! Now I will caution you. Shamese is not your typical old hair dresser. She is a true cosmetologist. She is very serious about your hair care and makes it clear that this is her focus. If you are one that doesn't care about your hair or only care about your hair on certain occasions then this IS NOT the salon for you. If your hair is damaged, you have terrible ends or your hair needs something in particular, she will suggest and expect you to get the services needed to repair them. I can see where some people may misconstrue this as rude or mean but she doesn't play around when it comes to healthy hair. I get it, and I love her for it. I followed her advise and even though I only come once a month, my hair is in the best shape it has ever been.

I do want to add to the comment below. Although I don't know her particular situation I would like to give my feedback since I am a regular client. I have never had an instance where the salon was not open during my appointment. Shamese is either there already or pulling up right beside me (if I have a morning appointment).

This salon is more modern in terms of how it operates and I absolutely love it! If you are a person that needs to be hand held to make an appointment then this may not be the salon for you. I enjoy booking online at MY convenience. I don't have to bother with calling the salon, leaving a message, waiting for the stylist to call me back and then after all that, them not having the appointment time I need. I go online, her schedule tells me what is available, I book and the rest is history.

They do require a credit card to secure your appointment but It didn't bother me because I've never been the no call no show type. I never had a problem with this aspect of booking. Never had my card charged unexpectedly or any fraud. I did have to pay in cash and no, I was never given a receipt but that is something that only a person that has been to the salon would know. But I never asked for one either, nor have I ever been to a salon where they have giving me a receipt for a roller set lol.

Again, to each is own but I love this salon. Everyone has to find "their" ideal salon and just because it may not operate like you'd like it too doesn't mean it's not fabulous. You just need to find the right salon/stylist for you. I have! Good luck girls!!!

After reading a lot of the reviews on here I decided to try out this salon.

1) It is kind of shady to me that everything has to be done online - schedule, etc. You WILL NOT ever get to talk to a person before you go, I can guarantee it. Which makes their phone # uselss, because all it does it tell you to go to the website.

2) You have to pay in cash, which make sense in a business sense during hard times. However, they don't give you a receipt which is again, a little shady. Seeming how you have to give your credit card just to sign up for an appointment. (No extra charges...YET)

3) I had made an appointment for today at 9 am (at least 3 weeks in advance). Showed up at 9 this morning and NO ONE WAS THERE. I decided to wait 15 min before leaving, because that would give them enough chance to call me, show up late, or cancel. NOTHING. During that wait, I tried to call them so that I could have this on record, so that they wouldn't charge my card for "not showing". But low and behold, only get "go to the website". Makes me wonder if that is the real reason they have that phone # in place. (Avoidance)

I would have been fine if they had to cancel or she was running late, as long as they would have been courteous enough to call/ let me know. That is the least they could do, but they weren't even able to do that. Let alone call and see for myself. Unfortunately, what I thought was going to be an answer to all my hair problems ended up being a waste of time, money, and gas. Do yourself a favor and go find a RELIABLE hairdresser. It will keep you from pulling your hair out.

I was excited because I thought I had finally found a hair salon I could trust and had reasonable prices.

Best black salon here period!

I was going natural but decided to relax again due to the lack of qualified "natural" hair care specialists in lexington. Oh yes, several claim that title but their expertise or lack thereof is bland at best. The black salons here are ratchet and unprofessional. Waiting hrs to get in the chair, gossip, the mini flea markets inside selling everything from stolen clothes, bootleg dvd's, to cheap jewelry. I found this salon by recommendations and I am happily on my way to going natural again. There is no drama there, I'm only there for an hour atleast. The salon look makes me feel like im on a hollywood set. I love it there.

My story: To make a long s...

My story:

To make a long story short, Shamise had to cut my shoulder length hair to 1/2" long. I don't like to bad mouth others but just head my warning to stay away from a stylist by the name of Yolanda. She was in a salon that was in the back of a cell phone store. Right then I should've known better but lesson learned.

It's been a year and a long road but now my hair is shoulder length again. I wore quickweaves all year. Now I know most say that the glue damages your hair and I too believed that but my girl is so amazing. My hair is long and healthy once again. I got the glue free quickweave every 2 weeks for a year. Doesn't seem that long ago but I first came to her last summer my hair was cut off like a boy now it's down to my shoulders again.

I am so grateful

Ok so I started not to write t...

Ok so I started not to write this review because Insider takes you through too much to sign up but this salon deserves it.

I moved to Lex over a year ago. My hair has suffered. I've been to a few salons here. One very inexpensive, one that was moderately priced and one that was extremely overpriced. All claimed to be knowledgeable of my hair texture, all claimed to deliver. WRONG

My sister in law recommended this salon. She told me about it when I first moved here but I tend to ignore her because she is not my favorite person. However during their New Years get together most of the ladies there were looking fly. I started to ask that famous question "Who did your hair" and you can guess what the answer was lol.

By the time I reached the 3rd girl she innocently brought most of the women into our convo. Everyone was talking about this salon and how they came to know each other. They were all linked/met via this salon. Of course my sister in law had this little smirk on her face so I lied and said they didn't have any appointments available for me but I would try again... And yes, all of them urged me to try again.

I went to their website which was extremely impressive. I have to be honest and hope I don't upset anyone but I have never been or heard of a "black" salon that was this professional. The service options they have are endless. I made an appointment right on their website. Amazing. I didn't have to call and play phone tag.

I showed up with my list in my hand. I have a list that I use since I have had so many horrible experiences here. My stylist was Shamis. I walked in, she was waiting. I was automatically nervous because the clients are usually the one waiting. From that moment on, I developed a great relationship with this young lady.

Shamis is professional, on time, doesn't double book, creates the most amazing hair and most importantly (to me) my hair is the healthiest it has ever been.

I even felt the need to call my sis n law to thank her for the referral. You have no idea how much I didn't want to do that.

Go see them. You will not be sorry.

Confused Tresses

Ok so I tend to babble a little so I'm gonna make this short & sweet. I been lex for over a year. I was relaxed (preferred) when my job relocated me here. A few months in I started looking for a stylist. I went through 4 of them. I had it up to here with the lack of professionalism, disrespect, drama, ghetto fabulous & untrained stylist here. I went through a thick head of healthy relaxed hair, to damaged & thin, to natural dry kinky hair. Until I found Shamis.

she helped me understand what it meant for me to be natural and the commitment I need to have for healthy hair in general. I was natural 4 a few months and although I did love it it just wasn't for me.

I went back to my relaxed hair which I love , she set me up on a regiment and my hair is almost back to the length it started with when I first moved from texas.

Ladies I will just say this, if you prefer to have it done right the first time , go see her.

Attention African American fem...

Attention African American females it's not unknown on how difficult it is to manage our hair. There are so many products, processes, and money that is spent for us to attempt to get our hair together. Look no further because Contagious Hair Salon is just like its name contagious! You will get hooked and spread the news about there amazing hair services! I have struggle with my hair every since I was little starting off with mama and I in the kitchen with the pressing comb trying not to get burned, to finally putting in relaxers, but having my hair break off, going back to the pressing comb but investing in the electric version, then back to relaxers. Unfortunately, when going back to relaxers in my later years I went to a beauty school in Lexington, KY located downtown and it was put in wrong and my hair severely broke off most of it on the floor after that I was threw and have been slowly trying to maintain my hair on my own. Shamis got me together when I first came in for a trim she gave me the best advice on how to help my hair. I came in next time and got a service called "silk infusion" and a style hair cut and OMG you talk about body I mean BODY my hair moved like Michelle Obama and it was so amazingly soft I was smiling from ear to ear and shaking my head all day long! The prices are quite reasonable compared to anyone else! The shop is so fabulously decorated too! If I were you book an appointment today!!!

Originally from Chicago, I am ...

Originally from Chicago, I am in my 2nd yr of school at UK. Having been here for almost 3 yrs I have been to pretty much every salon here. I have even tried some of the girls out in the dorms. I was so frustrated with the lack of creativity/quality here. I would have to wait for breaks or even fly back home on wknds just to get my hair done. I saw a flyer while at an event for a salon. I scheduled a consult and the rest is history. I've been going to Shamis ever since. TRUST ME people, especially if you are from another area you probably already know how hard it is to find/trust a stylist. You won't be disappointed.

Great Services - very nice!!!

GREAT SERVICE!!! I would absolutely refer my friends & family. I am new to the area and when my sister came to visit I referred her to Shamis and of course she was pleased. Let me also mention that my sister had ordered hair from www.Contagioushair.com before arriving and she hasn't stop talking about the hair.

I love my hair!

Shamis Talib is just an amazing person and stylist. She is so sweet and attentive. I am a very indecisive person and she helped me understand and create a hair schedule that is right for me. I am natural and I thought I knew all there was to know about natural hair texture, how to care for it, styles because like everyone else does I watch Youtube and think that I have the inside scoop on what's what.

Now I have a personalize hair regimen that is specific to my hair care needs. I even know my hair type which I didn't even knew exists. I have 3b hair and each hair type absolutely responds differently. I see her once a week and my hair has never thrived like it has. These so call stylist here in Lexington need to take notes because they talk a good game but in the end it's just talk. Most of them have the advantage over us because they are speaking foreign language to any person that has not picked up a cosmetology book and they "SOUND" professional but it's just a lot of fluff and filler as I call it. Most of these stylists here claim they know about natural hair but they only know how to style it. Hell, I can style my own hair but how to I keep it healthy. And she is the only black stylist here that knows how to do the Brazilian straightening. I saw this technique online and called EVERY SINGLE SALON IN LEXINGTON, KY and not one knew what I was talking about, let a lone had a stylist that did it.

Do yourself a favor and get it right the first time with Shamis.
