By opening the doors to Childress Vineyards in 2004, NASCAR team owner Richard Childress fulfilled a longtime dream that grew from the days when he first began racing in California and visited wineries with friends. What began as camaraderie and good times soon became an engaging passion for world-class wines and then the vision to build a world-class winery. After looking at options in California and New York, Richard chose farmland in Lexington, NC located less than five miles from his RCR Racing operations. The location situated Childress Vineyards as the gateway to the Yadkin Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA), North Carolina’s first federally designated region for grape growing. Childress Vineyards is one of the most prominent wineries in the state’s re-emerging wine industry that has grown from 21 to more than 180 wineries since the year 2000.By opening the doors to Childress Vineyards in 2004, NASCAR team owner Richard Childress fulfilled a longtime dream that grew from the days when he first began racing in California and visited wineries with friends. Following our exceptional meal...

Following our exceptional meal at The Bistro at Childress Vineyards, we went outside where a painting class was being held beside a grassy dance floor. The DJ was playing "Cupid Shuffle" and other songs that make those of us with little to no rhythm shake our money makers like we know what we are doing.

It was a great way to work off the light spring meal featured inside the Bistro, where we had exceptional service for a party of eight women celebrating the impending marriage of our dear friend.

The menu changes regularly, but the Trifecta, which is an app, entree and dessert along with two ounce pours of wines that complement each was a big winner at our table. The price and portions were ideal, and the flavors were diverse and tasty. It is also easy to go gluten-free via the notations on the menu.

There is a kids's menu, but let's not bring them. Childress is a lovely place reminiscent of an Italian countryside vineyard. Bringing the kids will remind you that you aren't on vacation, but in the middle of nowhere Lexiington, NC. Don't ruin the illusion.

Great Vacation spot

This is a new place in Lexington, NC and it is great. They offer wine tastings, small shops, and soon a hotel on the property. Great for a long weekend trip.
