Mickey F. Plymale, MD, received his medical degree from Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, West Virginia. He completed his internship and residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. He completed fellowships at the Dr. James Andrews American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. He is a member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Sports Medicine Fellowship Society. His team physician history includes Auburn University athletics; Barons AA baseball, an affiliate of Chicago White Sox; the Alabama Ballet Company; the University of Alabama ice hockey team; the SEC baseball tournament; Vestavia Hills High School, 6A, of Birmingham, Alabama; and Truman High School in New York City. He currently is the team physician and medical director for the South Carolina State Bulldogs, Columbia Fireflies single A baseball team, affiliates of the Kansas City Royals, and several local area high schools. His specialties and clinical interests include fracture care; upper extremity, hip and knee surgery; arthroscopic ACL reconstruction; meniscus repair; arthroscopic rotator cuff repair; shoulder stabilization procedures; patella instability; joint preservation; cartilage replacement and transplantation; and partial knee replacement.
