The Liberal Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the city of Liberal, Kan. It prevents crime, protects residents lives and property, suppresses criminal activity, and apprehends and prosecutes offenders. The department maintains an investigations division, which is a specialized unit and is comprised of evidence, criminal investigations and professional standard sections. The Liberal Police Department s administration division performs duties related to police records, vehicle maintenance, transcriptions, police equipment supplies, public media relations and recruitment of employees. It also has an operations division that includes patrol, training, animal control, community service and bike units. The Liberal Police Department has the Special Response Team (SRT), which deals with high-risk and dangerous situations, including barricaded persons, high-risk warrant arrests, explosive devices and heavily-armed criminals.
