David Matias is a Managing Director at Robertson Stephens in the Boston office. With Avi Deutsch and Brandon Frye, he advises on a range of financial and life needs, including portfolio management, legacy creation, and social impact investing. David especially enjoys working with families looking to plan multi-generational wealth preservation and transfer while .
Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, David was the Founder and Managing Principal of Vodia Capital, a wealth management firm he started in 2004 to address what he viewed as a dearth of quality, ethical, integrity-focused investment management solutions for families and individuals. With the help of a wonderful team, David grew Vodia into a $200 million asset manager through a combination of values-based investing, innovative investment strategies, and steady stewardship through multiple financial crises. A heavy focus on building a quality team of professionals at Vodia helped create an environment in which clients could feel safe and protected, even during some of the best and worst of times in our recent financial history.
David also started Vodia Ventures in 2013, a family of early-stage venture funds Starting at a time when individual , Vodia Ventures has successfully launched companies across the globe in areas as diverse as sustainable aquaculture and chronic-care patient management. Today, Vodia Ventures continues to support its portfolio of companies as they fulfill their promise and innovate in a rapidly changing world and challenged society.
Prior to founding Vodia Capital in 2004, David was a partner at MarchFirst/Mitchell Madison Group in their Securities Practice. He opened their Boston and Paris offices and specialized in securities trading and risk management. David also spent three years as a frame-to-finish carpenter in the Boston area immediately prior to founding Vodia.
David graduated cum laude from Amherst College with a bachelor’s in Political Science and received his master’s from MIT Sloan School of Management in Financial Engineering and Economics. His graduate thesis, on the adaptation of the Black-Scholes Merton derivative pricing model for inflation derivatives, was written jointly with the Harvard Business School and Bridgewater Associates. David attended Concord Academy and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Massachusetts.
David is currently pursuing a part-time masters in Bible Interpretation at The Jewish Theological Seminary, enjoys his free time in Costa Rica contemplating his navel, and is a lifelong soccer fanatic.
