I was referred to this clinic by my doctor; it was Friday afternoon and I needed to have my medical concern evaluated as I was 32-weeks pregnant at the time and was concerned that waiting might cause some harm to the baby.



Much to my misfortune, Dr. Gibbs was the surgeon on call that day. Emotionless, he walked in the room with his assistant and extended his hand to offer a very limp handshake. He examined my arm, saying nothing, and began to prepare supplies for a procedure he didn't feel was important enough for me---the patient no less----to know about. There was no explanation of his assessment, no warning of the pain he was about to inflict, and as little of a response as he could offer when asked questions about the whole ordeal.



If my pain that day didn't exceed that which I experienced in labor and childbirth, it was very close. At least in labor and delivery, I was given the decent type of medical treatment that every patient deserves.



I don't know why Dr. Gibbs was such a jerk to me that day. I don't know how physicians with such poor bedside manner are able to sustain a profession when there are clearly better options out there. I do know this: I would have to be one heartless creature to ever recommend his expertise to anybody I know.



If I had it to do all over again, I would have walked out after the handshake.

More concerned about himself, his schedule, and his convenience than me.
