I summited Mt. Whitney & came back down in a day. And all the way down the mountain visions of burgers, fries and a cold beer filled my head pushing me to move faster. This Portal store is like heaven when you get down off the trail. Not only does it have great post-hike food/drinks...but they also serve quite possibly the largest pancake I have EVER seen/eaten (to fuel your hike UP the mountain). It is literally the size of 5 normal pancakes....and it actually tastes good! The Portal is also a great spot to stop in if you are camping & may have forgotten something.

Rumor is that Josiah Whitney never saw Mt. Whitney. Is there a factual basis for this rumor.
