Rudeness and Ignorance of Clerks

It is my first time to complain about 7-Eleven, but this is more or less what happened.

Yesterday (Jan.12, '09) around 10:30 PM or so, I was at the 7-Eleven at this address. It took unusually long time

(actually 10 minutes or so) for me to locate something I really wanted. The main reason was that "Vons" nearby

was unexpectedly closed, due to power outage.

There were two male clerks in blue and red shirts at the cashier. Let me call them "blue guy" and "red guy". The red

guy said that I had been in the store too long. I replied to him saying that it was not illegal to be in the store for a

long time, until I find a right thing to buy.

I finally located the form for Daily 3 lottery, and I marked "Quick Pick", meaning that the machine picks up random

three numbers for me.

I gave it to the blue guy. Surprisingly, the red guy said, "It does NOT work that way, you have to pick up three

numbers!", and the blue guy nodded. I then showed the instruction about Quick Pick to both of them, but the

red guy refused to admit, saying to the blue guy, "You do not have to talk to the customer!".

I then decided to read aloud the instruction of Quick Pick, but only the blue guy paid attention well. Afterwards,

he seemed to have understood, and scanned the mark by the machine, and I got a Daily 3 lottery ticket.

I was so frustrated by the red guy's ignorance of Quick Pick, that I said to him, "Are you sleepy?" Then he said,

"No, we are not stupid! Get out of here!"

It is not just the rudeness of the red guy, but the fact that they do not know even what is Quick Pick for lotteries.

Moreover, the red guy was trying to "hide" his ignorance in a very awkward way! The red guy could have simply

said that he did not know about it. He did not even try to learn what is Quick Pick. As you see, his fault is

double-fold or triple-fold. I should say that the blue guy's attitude was better.

I wonder if this is the way they instruct clerks at 7-11 as a common rule. Or, this happened only at a very

special store of 7-11? I never experienced this sort of attitudes and ignorance at ANY other 7-11 in the U.S.

I thought that due to the economic downturn nowadays, the quality of clerks went up, but I was wrong.

In any case, I decided to report it at this site, so that there might be improvement in the future at 7-Eleven.

For these reasons, I rate this store definitely only 1 out of 5.
