If there was a score available of less than one, I would award that to Ron R Fine Jewelry.
I've always enjoyed having my German made mantle clock that my mom bought with Green Stamps when I was a kid in the 1950s. She gave it to me several years ago and I've always loved hearing the Westminster chimes. When I last wound my clock, however, it made a sort of "sprong" sound. I thought something had broken and I took it to Ron R here in Longmont.
I took my mantle clock there for repairs about the middle of September 2016. At first he said he "hoped it would be ready by Christmas" last year. It was not. He kept my clock for 16 MONTHS and kept telling me that he "kept calling to order a new spring for it." Of course, I had no proof that he "kept calling" anyone for anything. Neither he nor the woman who works there (I assume his wife) ever called me to tell me what was going on. I stopped by several times and it was always the same reply.
I was finally fed up and called to pick up my clock last week. She told me that Ron would have to reassemble it. That was in the morning and I dropped by mid- to late afternoon to pick it up. It was not ready. Her only retort was, "Didn't I tell you that Ron would have to reassemble it?" I replied, "Yes, but you did not tell me when it would be ready." She assured me it would be ready the next day. I picked it up and told them that I'd heard Ron had ruined other people's clocks and lost parts to them. I heard a story that he had someone's clock for SIX YEARS.
I got a recommendation from Snyder Jewelers for a Dick Feldman, Expert Repair of Spring and Weight-Driven Clocks in Berthoud. I took my clock there on 10/17/17 and dropped it off at his wife's shop. I just got a call from Dick today (11/21/17) and my clock is repaired. It turned out NOT TO BE a broken spring. It was slippage around the end of the spring in a "barrel." Too technical for me but basically, a small part was bent and just needed to be tightened up. I'm picking up my clock tomorrow at a total cost of $60. Ron's estimate, if I remember correctly, was $300 - $370. It may have been less than that.
I highly recommend Dick Feldman (970) 581-5376 (cell). I would take NOTHING to Ron R Fine Jewelry. Neither Ron nor the woman working there have ANY concept of customer service. Any communication to find of the status of my clock had to be initiated by me.
