I-95 Landfill Complex, a part Fairfax County, Va., is a privately owned and operated by Covanta Fairfax. Operational since 1990, the complex houses the energy resource recovery facility, which is one of the largest waste-to-energy service providers in the United States. I-95 Landfill Complex uses municipal waste as fuel, as well as produces more than 750MW of electricity. It also specializes in processing waste items, such as confidential documents, old currency and infested nursery plant materials. The facility is administered by the division of solid waste disposal and resource recovery. It maintains several industrial boilers that can burn over 2,500 tons of municipal solid waste per day.
