Hospice We provide our patients with a large list of services and amenities in order to create a comfortable environment with a quality of life. Our well versed staff at Empire Hospice care consists of doctors, nurses, therapists, dieticians as well as many other important administered care providers. We provide all medications, equipment and supplies prescribed to our patient’s diagnosis as requested in order to manage pain and create a comfortable living space. To receive hospice, physicians must be willing to state that death can be expected within 6 months if the disease follows its normal course. This does not mean that care will only be provided for 6 months; hospice can be provided as long as the person’s physician and hospice team certifies that their condition remains life limiting. Palliative Care Palliative care serves as a complement to the medical treatments already being provided by your doctor and aims to provide pain and symptom relief and management, ultimately improving the quality of life of our patients. Palliative care can be provided along with curative treatment. When to Consider Palliative Care? Hospice care is provided when a patient is in need of end-of-life support. We provide pain and symptom management, physical and emotional support, as well as support for family members of the patient during these trying times. Hospice allows for natural advancement to take its course but with as much comfort and pain management that can be provided. What to Expect? •Relief from any pain or discomfort from symptoms. •Reduced stress and relaxation •Emotional support for patients and family members Hospice Vs. Palliative Care Hospice and Palliative Care both focus on improving the quality of life, providing symptom relief and pain management for the Patient. However, the easiest way to remember the difference is that Hospice care is for patients with terminal illnesses whereas Palliative care does not have to be.
