I responded to their ad in the LA Times with interest in selling a Kieth Haring print I have owned for almost 20 years. Andrew Morris indicated that he had clients that might be interested. He came to my home the next day to check out the condition of the print. We agreed on the commission should he sell the print and he took the print after we agreed on a reasonable price for the piece. Within two weeks, as he had promised, he call to tell me that he had sold the print at the high end of the agreed upon selling price. Five days later I received a check.

Stuart Antiques, Andrew Morris, delivered on every level and I could not be more pleased. I'm writing this review because I had reviewed Yelp reviews before I met with Andrew, they were not good and I was reluctant to do business with Stewart. I'm glad I ignored the reviews and I trusted my property with Steward Antiques. Good decision!

My Grandmother passed away. I called Stewart Antiques and spoke to Andrew, the charming owner. I consigned my Grandmothers paintings, sterling flatware and jewelry. I received checks promptly and for more than I expected.

I second the negative reviews....only by constant badgering did we get paid in installments, no less. We were in a very bad financial bind and they didn't care at all.

In the last 5 years I have not only sold items through Stewart Antiques, but also purchased a few pieces from them. Therefore, I was surprised to see the negative reviews. My experience with them has been GREAT! A friend of mine referred me to Stewart Antiques a few years back when I was trying to sell some jewelry. I had seen another local jewelry buyer and wanted a second opinion. Stewart Antiques was honest, fair and paid me for my items in the time frame promised. Since then I have returned to them on several occasions and even referred a few of my friends to them. If you haven't stopped by their gallery I highly suggest you do. They have very unique pieces. I was surprised to know that they also deal in Modern Art. These are my go to guys whether I am looking to sell something or looking to buy a gift. '

The man has extremely rude and nasty phone manners!

Stewart Antiques acquires their merchandise by taking out large impressive ads in the Los Angeles Times. I was moving from a large home filled with 18th and 19th century European antiques and art. They came to my home and told me the pieces were wonderful and gave me rough estimates. I decided to consign with them because the main auction house in town (Bonham’s) was being so non-responsive (that is another story in itself.) When he came to pick up the pieces, the estimates he had given were shaved down drastically. I was in a bind as I had to be out of the house so I allowed them to take 59 pieces with an auction estimate total of between $42,880 and $64,355 (which was about 1/3 less than had been originally estimated.) He claimed to have private buyers, his shop, and that he held his own auctions. What he did was take 2/3rd of it to Abell’s Auction (which I could have done myself) and sell it with no reserve. I therefore paid two commissions on the sale and the prices were ridiculously low. A table estimated at $1000-$2000 was sold for $2.50. An English tester bed from 1830 estimated at $800-1200 sold for $30. Then getting the money out of them was like pulling hens teeth. In the end there were 15 pieces left which I went to pick up. Suddenly 8 of them had been sold at a mysterious auction, again absurd prices. A tall case clock estimated at $1200-1800 sold for $90. They are vague if you ask questions, charming until the merchandise is in their hands, then they become testy. I hate writing this because I actually came to like the two people there but their business ethics are too questionable not to warn others. If you use them set absolute prices and expect to wait some time.

Several years ago I sold some very fine collectibles and a Tiffany

Schlumberger gold and diamond ring. I was told I would receive

payment within one week. I did not receive payment as promised

and in spite of calling Mr. Stewart numerous times over a period

of 3-4 months I never received payment nor did I receive call

backs at any time.

I finally filed for a hearing at the small claims court of Beverly Hills with the knowledge that this would take care of the problem. Mr.

Stewart sent me check just prior to the court date.

I will never do business with this man and I do not find him to

be trustworthy
