I really like Bassett Furniture. They have wonderful furniture and I have spent so much money there over the years. I just got my latest purchse a bedroom set, and I LOVE IT!

I purchased a sofa from Bassett, with a custom upolstery (total price was $898). The saleswoman told me I'd be looking at 3 weeks for delivery. When I called 10 days later just to check the status (as she instructed me to do), she said she had written down the wrong code number and gave me the price for the love seat, not the sofa, so the sofa was not currently being made. She told me it would be 6-8 weeks more for delivery AND an additional $150.



I explained that what she was doing was a bait-and-switch and I was not going to pay the $150 extra because of an error she made. Bassett should have made good on the price they gave me. The manager of the store wouldn't honor the originally-quoted price either, giving me a lame excuse that it's the Bassett owner who determines the final say. Seems to be a crappy way to do business. Any other business who screwed up that badly would have made it right with the customer.



I'm an easy customer and I don't make a point to formally complain when I feel I've been wronged. i simply take my money elsewhere. But in this case, I want other customers to be aware of my crappy experience with Bassett. I politely complained to the manager (who also was no help), canceled my order and told the manager to credit my credit card the full amount, which he assured me they would do. It's now been almost a month later and that $898 charge STILL has not been credited to my credit card, so I've filed a formal charge dispute with Visa and am letting the Visa people handle the problem.



I've never had such a horrible experience making a (rather large) purchase from a store before. I'll never shop at Bassett again.
