Created in 1997, the Louisville/Jefferson County Environmental Trust works to protect land for future generations through voluntary cooperative programs. The department is responsible for education the community about the need to preserve natural areas and increasingly rare agricultural land. It works to envision a network of neighborhood parks, greenways, historic sites and natural areas. The Louisville/Jefferson County Environmental Trust works to sponsor land preservation workshops, seminars and public presentations. It works with local government agencies on land conservation planning and the management of publicly-owned sites. The department additionally is responble for assisting landowners, nonprofit organizations, elected officials, developers and the business community by helping them understand the tools and options available for land preservation. The Louisville/Jefferson County Environmental Trust is a part of the Louisville Metro Planning & Design Services Department, which is governed by the City of Louisville in Kentucky.
