The mission of the Lowell Police Department of Lowell, Mass., is to work with the community to reduce crime, the fear of crime and improve the quality of life in the city of Lowell. The department s services include providing emergency responses to crime, working with neighborhoods and businesses to identify and solve problems, and sponsoring comprehensive recreational and educational programs for youth. The department sponsors programs for Lowell youth, including an in-school drug abuse resistance education program and a drug abuse resistance education summer camp. The department develops specialized responses to crimes such as domestic violence and gang activity and provides ongoing training of police personnel to best address community needs. The department also provides community-based policing, neighborhood precinct stations, specialized foot, bike, horseback and boat and a mobile van command center to address pressing needs throughout the city.
