The first Macados restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees.Popular with the college crowd, the restaurant opened additional locations near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College. Locations were added at the rate of one or two per year, including those in neighboring West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.Macados just recently opened its newest location in Winchester, Virginia. The already-lengthy menu has been changed and expanded over the years, and several events have grown in popularity, such as the Macados Annual St. Patricks Day Party and the Macados Halloween Party. Loyal customers have made Macados part of their own traditions as well!

The communication between the waiters/waitresses and the greeters is less than par. My family and I have came in twice between six months and the reason is because they led us to our seats in a corner in an in an empty restaurant that day and we sat there waiting for 20 min. When we got fed up with the pitiful service we finally laughed and got a great cheap meal at Apple Bee's. I am currently sitting here now and when we walked through the door and immediately greeted. We were then led to our seats and we sat here waiting for somebody to come and we greeted by a rushed waitress who said she had to leave and that another member of the staff would come and serve us. The chips she brought us were cold and tasteles. Nobody came for 10 minutes and we finally saw our waiter. We looked over at the bar. And we saw the same waitress who supposedly left. We ordered our appetizer and simple meals. And the appetizers and salads still haven't came out. It's been 15 min. The food is decent but overlooked because of the sub-par, rugged atmosphere. The bathrooms are dirty. And the poor service. I do not recommend Macado's to anybody. All the factors that you look for at good restaurants are definitely invisible here. I could faster and better food service at goodwill than here. Macado's should be ashamed of themselves and should not serve one more meal to anyone. WILL NOT BE BACK ANYTIME SOON.!!!
