I was recommended by a friend. I had color and a haircut. I had the owner. He speaks like he really knows hair and color. He must have had a bad day. My color was put on in a sloppy way. In fact, it started dripping into my eyes from my eyebrow which never happened before. The color did not cover my hair well, and I saw gray hair around by temples My cut was
uneven, I finally had a correction cut at a local salon. The worst part about the owner is that he doesn't listen. He made me feel that his needs were more important than mine and he
Has a superior attitude and is living and cutting in the 60's.

Salon is comfortable and frien...

Salon is comfortable and friendly. My booking was with Sal - not my first time. There was so much mentoring of staff that I felt like I was in a cut-rate beauty school. The cut was not satisfactory - in fact only took about 15 minutes for $100. The girl who blew out my hair seemed upset at the cut - very uneven - called him back but he thought it was perfect. He seems unfocused as of late, but the cost is top dollar for NJ. Upsetting - will try one more time because he is very nice.

He should also pay attention to the client he is tending to - seems to give an extraordinary amount of time/conversation to some which backs up his appointments and causes delays.

Maybe he was having an "off" day??

On a whim, I booked an hour consultation with the owner, Salvatore Minardi, for $100, which goes towards services. He was so overbooked (possibly due to the fact that he did not have a receptionist at the time) and flitting between customers that I was finally taken about an hour after my scheduled appointment time. He's a personable guy, friendly, and talks a good game. He comes from a family where haircutting is definitely in his blood .. but perhaps not in his fingers.

Everything he said made sense, and sounded wonderful. His philosophy of scalp/hair care and the product lines he sells are well thought out. I was actually excited to be in the hands of what I thought was a "New York" caliber haircutter in suburban New Jersey.

Of course, the hour consultation took only about 15 minutes, which could easily have been forgiven if the results of the cut that followed were acceptable ...

While dropping names of everyone in the hair and fashion industry, he proceeded to cut my hair into something that looked, at best, like one of the Beatles in the 60s. There was definitely some decent shaping and thinning going on, but the sides were uneven throughout. I was in too much of a state of shock to completely take in what had happened to my hair.

I wouldn't even go back to his salon; I finally, two days later, sheepishly returned to my loyal haircutter, who performed massive triage on my sad locks.

His other stylists seemed to do beautiful work (as I had quite a bit of time waiting, I witnessed some decent cuts from his staff), so if you decide to go, just avoid the "master," whose prices are higher than his "artists," whose work is considerably better. He can at least choose a good staff.
