"Jin Shin Do" means "The Way of the Compassionate Spirit." Jin Shin Do Bodymind Acupressure uses the use of gentle yet deep finger pressure on specific acu-points and verbal Body Focusing techniques, to help release "armoring" or chronic tension and balance the "Qi" or energy. This clothes-on method helps relieve stress- and trauma- related problems. A unique synthesis of a traditional Japanese acupressure technique, classic Chinese acupuncture and acupressure theory, Taoist philosophy, Qigong (breathing and exercise techniques), Reichian segmental theory and principles of Ericksonian psychotherapy, it is recognized as a major form of Asian Bodywork Therapy (by NCCAOM & AOBTA among others). Originated by psychotherapist Iona Marsaa Teeguarden, JSD promotes a pleasant trancelike state, in which one can relax and move out of the head and into the body, accessing feelings and inner wisdom. The Essence of Qi is a form of Eastern Bodywork that Cheri Haines developed out of her many and varied experiences in the field of Asian Bodywork Therapy(ABT). The inspiration of this work came mostly from her teachings with Jeffrey Yuen. Like all sessions with Cheri, clients remain clothed. An assessment is made to determine which layer(s) of qi are best to address for your particular focus/situation. Working directly at the most appropriate layer of qi is working at The Essence of Qi. The layer/level of Qi and your own comfort level determines the type of touch and techniques used throughout the session. Varied Eastern Bodywork techniques (like varied touch - light to deep, acupressure or massage and different meridian systems) are chosen to best address your focus.
