The Madison Police Department is a law enforcement agency that issues auto releases, accident reports, alarm permits, and firearm permits and releases. It has a narcotics and gang task force, which is a multijurisdictional law enforcement group that consists of federal, state and local agencies and arrests individuals involved in illegal gang activities. The department also provides traffic and parking enforcement services. It is operated by the city of Madison, Wis., which also operates other departments, such as parks and recreation, finance, fire and rescue, human resources, public works and water. The Madison Police Department additionally maintains special events and emergency response teams.
