The University of Wisconsin Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention conducts research in the area of tobacco dependence and its treatment. It also conducts clinical trials of medications for smoking cessation, research concerning tobacco treatment in health care systems and epidemiological research about smoking prevalence. It provides technical assistance and training to health care professionals to treat tobacco users. It also offers programs to help veterans, pregnant women, parents and Medicaid recipients to quit smoking and chewing tobacco. It is sponsored by the National Institute of Drug Abuse and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The University of Wisconsin Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention, established in 1992, is located in Madison, Wis.
