WHCA/WiCAL
3902 Milwaukee St, Madison, WI 53707
Established in 1951, the Wisconsin Health Care Association ( WHCA ) is a non-profit organization dedicated to representing, protecting and advancing the interests of over 150 Wisconsin nursing facilities, their 22, 000 employees and the 27, 000 residents they serve. WHCA takes pride in its role as the state's largest and most representative nursing home association. Unlike others, WHCA does not restrict membership to any particular segment of the industry. Indeed, WHCA's strength, effectiveness, and integrity are significantly enhanced by the diversity of its membership which includes proprietary, non-profit, and government-operated facilities. The association's strength in successfully identifying and resolving the myriad of complex issues confronting the long term care industry is buttressed by its broad based associate membership. These individuals, firms and organizations provide professional services critically necessary and intimately linked to achievement of the quality of care our member facilities are dedicated to providing. Their support and participation in the association gives WHCA the means to identify and advance comprehensive approaches best suited to the individual and collective interests of its members, their employees and residents.WHCA's success in representing its membership is in large part attributable to its fine professional staff which possesses both the credentials and experience necessary for effective representation. It has two full-time attorneys with extensive experience in health law in both public and private sectors. In addition, the full-time presence of a government relations specialist, accountant, public relations and special projects staff assure timely and accurate assessment, articulation and dissemination of facts and information critical to the membership's, public's and legislature's understanding of issues impacting on long term care. All staff are readily accessible to the membership and their employees to assist in resolving their individual and collective concerns. It should also be noted, WHCA's pro-active presence is not limited to Madison. The state association is comprised of 11 districts, the membership of which meets regularly to discuss their individual and collective concerns. This organization on the district level assures that problems and concerns, be they individual, regional or statewide, can be readily identified and remedied.WHCA strives to keep both its facility and associate membership timely and fully apprised of developments at the state and national levels. It distributes twice monthly its "Updates" addressing matters and issues of interest. More detailed information is regularly disseminated through its "Staff Notes" which provide intense attention to matters deserving of more thorough analysis. Finally, through educational seminars, conventions, and public relations projects, WHCA strives to continually afford its membership and the public the education and information critical to attainment of our primary goal of enhancement of quality care for the residents we serve.
