Inserra owns and operates more than 20 ShopRite supermarkets and superstores in northern New Jersey and southeastern New York State (most are in Westchester and Rockland counties). ShopRite is the largest retailer-owned cooperative in the United States and the largest employer in New Jersey. All ShopRite owners are members of Wakefern Food Corporation, which buys, warehouses and transports products while providing other support services to ensure customer satisfaction. Volume buying enables ShopRite stores to offer their consumers the lowest overall prices, and the greatest value, in the marketplace. The cooperative is comprised of more than 40 members who individually own and operate supermarkets under the ShopRite banner. Today, more than 50,000 people are employed by Wakefern Food Corporation, the merchandising and distribution arm of the company, and the 190 ShopRite stores in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
