Provided by YP.comThe Manitowoc YMCA's discipline has gone on W-A-Y too long. Unfair, ridiculous treatment given to our family by the management of the YMCA in Manitowoc WI. Our young son, was a 5th grader when he went to the YMCA in town with a friend. Someone was there who "bullied" him because, as a 5th grader he was very tall for his age. At the age of 10 or 11, the boys will defend themselves against continual bullying. Regardless of where it happens, the school, the playground, etc. This time he was bullied by a worker at the YMCA in Manitowoc. He was kicked out - not suspended, even though that would have been wrong also, unless the same punishment went to both - the one doing the bullying and the one who was being defensive when the bullying was taking place. My son has been forbidden to step foot into the place since he was a 5th grader and is now going into the 10th grade. A bit much...don't you agree? My family also is low-income; last year not even making $10K. We set up an appointment to meet with the person in charge of financial help to join and when we got there for the appointment, the front office totally ignored us and the person with whom we were supposed to meet with NEVER said a word to us. Is this what this organization was founded upon? Mr. Williams, I'm sure would not approve of such actions. Twenty-two-year-old George Williams, a farmer-turned-department store worker, was troubled by what he saw. He joined 11 friends to organize the first Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), a refuge of Bible study and prayer for young men seeking escape from the hazards of life on the streets. The Y claims that it understands the challenges that keep individuals from reaching their full potential and responds with services and support which help people to be self-reliant, productive and connected to the community. Each Y responds to the unique issues influencing the community and provides support through services focused on critical areas, such as child welfare, community health, job training, environmental education, quality of life or family services. Below are a few examples of how the Y is providing support to millions of people nationwide.
It certainly would be re-assuring to know that you actually DO follow what your website tells the public about your organization, because for the past five years, this family of four has an entirely DIFFERENT explanation about the way we have been treated by the Manitowoc WI YMCA staff. Hopefully, it's not too late to take some kind of action. It would be nice it you would take the time to get these things corrected. I know my family would appreciate any and all time you could put into making this right and show us that you truly are the organization you originally were founded to do for others.
Thank you for your time. God bless...
