Positive Dog Training at its Best

I'm an old school dog trainer who thought the choke collar, jerk and release was the only way to train a dog. Get them to fear you and they will do what you want. The last dog I did that to was a wonderful old soul, so when he passed I found myself at the shelter adopting a puppy. We went to school where they took my choke collar away, gave me treats and said 'this is how we do it now'. Once I figured out how to teach with positive methods, I saw a fearful sometimes bullish dog blossom. And being a skeptic at times, I began to read up on this way of training. Found out about clickers too. We became a team, and I had a dog I could trust off leash within 6 mos. of adopting her. Decided to move forward, wanted to train with clickers, had hopes of actually "being" in a dog show. I enrolled in Key City's classes at the "practical" level.

I was told that I could walk this dog on a buckle collar using a clicker and treats without her pulling. Sure, you try that with a hunting dog who would rather chase squirrels and sniff for mice! That issue along with others were resolved by their very capable and caring instructors. These people train their own dogs in multiple sports and work at staying current in the field, plus they've experienced many of the problems I had with my dog. I recommend this training school above all others to anyone I meet interested in having a well behaved companion! You will get your money's worth!! And most importantly, you AND your dog will have FUN!

Something for Everyone

I have been training my Weimeraner at KCKC for the last couple years and it is such a treat! As a novice I was able to ask all the questions I wanted about my puppy and learned a ton about dog behavior. Once I started I was hooked, and now they have introduced me into competition with much patience and care to cover all the details so that your first experience in the ring isn't an intimidating one. Classes at KCKC are both educational and a ton of fun!

Excellent Instructors

Have been training with the Key City Kennel Club for 8 years now. Am doing Agility and Obedience with my Border Collie and Chesapeakes. I find the staff at Key City Kennel Club very knowlegable in Dog Training and easy to work with. They are able to help with any problem in dog behavior that is out there. All the instructors talk to one another and share information to make learning fun for the dogs and their handlers. I would recommend this Club for training every time.

Variety of training options

I like the fact that KCKC has different training environments - obedience, conformation, agility, etc. plus the different levels for each. The instructors are knowledgeable and incorporate new ideas and methods when they run across them. It's a great group of people in the organization and they are dedicated individuals.

Great for first timers

I wanted training for my new puppy mainly for the purpose of having a well behaved, sociable pet. I wasn't interested in showing the dog or in being in any competitions. I found the classes helpful and enjoyable. My dog was ecstatic about going and got so excited when leaving for class was imminent that I couldn't say the word "class" until just before departure. I highly recommend Key City Kennel Club for any level of training.

KCKC is the best of all dog worlds. KCKC provides training for humans to manage their purebreds as well as their pets. Instructors are flexible and knowledgable with helping us to make behavior changes that will promote good dog behavior/companions.

You don't need to be a champion dog or handler; you can compete at a variety of levels with your dog or develop a therapy dog or just plain have fun. And you meet people from all walks of life. A great hobby!

My dog was not registered with the AKC and I wanted to do agility with her. The agility instructors at Key City Kennel Club help me get her registered. We are now competing in agility and loving it. We are still training with Key City. We go almost every week to learn new things and improve.

I have taken all my dogs to Key City Kennel club's classes since 1976. It is based on a reward system and never any harsh/jerking training. I've also been taking their agility classes since they first started offering them. Even though they are an AKC club, and they will back you with encouragment if you want to compete in trials, you will get just as much help with your individual needs if you are there to have fun with you dog, or problem solving to make your dog more of an enjoyable companion for the family. I would recommend these classes to anyone!
