The Maplewood Police Department, established in 1916, is a full-service law enforcement agency that provides services for the safety and welfare of the public. It has an auxiliary police unit that assists the department with disasters, emergency situations and special events. The Maplewood Police Department maintains various specialized units, including crime prevention, street crimes, traffic, community policing. The department supports Gang Resistance and Education Training, which is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum that teaches immunization skills against delinquency, youth violence and gang membership. In addition, it supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.). The Maplewood Police Department, located in Maplewood, N.J., operates detective, youth aid and records bureaus.
