It's rare these days finding such a great hobby shop like this. Tremendous selection of kits from knights to current military, aircraft,sci-fi, cars, books and more. Large selection of paints, tools, and more stuff than I realized was even available. The staff is very helpful and called me when a particular model I was looking for came in. If you're looking for a hobby shop it's worth the trip.

I started making a rocket museum roughly three years ago. 81% of my rocket models are ones I had to build myself. Most people who make models started when they were 5 years old. Any model with a skill level of 4 and below one of these experienced modelers could probably make for example an Atlantis orbiter blindfolded. Me on the other hand have started making models >40 years old. I cannot put my 21" Saturn V on any of my display tables or shelves. It just looks crappy. The next model I made was called a "Corporal Punishment": one of the first ICBM's or one of the first. Result after painting: C grade. Next came the Explorer Satellite: Grade C+, Next was the Vanguard. To date, this has been the most difficult model I have made. It did not say on the box that it came with headaches, "patience NOT included", expect for this model to take >28 hours to complete.
My point being that the guys at Spare Time Shop (Charlie in particular) has given me so many pointers. I never knew I should sand (400 grit) down large plastic parts before painting. When painting, spray is the choice method. Stupidly, I used a paint brush on the Saturn V. The result on that was a D.
If you go to Spare Time Shop and buy a model, if you need spare blades, brushes or you have a question you will walk out of the store with a "I can't wait to start this model !!" frame of mind. The store has given me so many pointers. I can make a rocket and one would not be able to tell if it was a diecast or one I made. Excellent model shop.

Worth the trip!

Locals are lucky to have this place and travelers should make this a MUST SEE on their route! This is the sort of Hobby Shop that defines the term, it's what we all grew up with in the 60's and 70's. AMAZING selection with a friendly well trained staff. Prices are right on par, and selection is boundless!

If I could give ZERO stars I would... BEWARE AT ALL COSTS! The selection is tiny...the costs are outrageous...AND...BE ADVISED...YOU CANNOT RETURN ANY ITEM FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN STORE CREDIT! I paid cash for an item... got a receipt... did NOT open it (price tag is still on the box!)... came back the next day to return it and was told that I can only get store credit....even though I paid cash...even though it was only a day later... AVOID AT ALL COSTS... it is this type of customer service that makes me shop at the big box stores. You'd think a small business like this would do whatever it takes to earn and keep your business.

This is a great hobby shop. If you like picking through piles and piles of plastic models and the thrill of discovery, this place is for you. I would call for hours before visiting.
