I highly recommend this place if you want to have the worse time ever , personally it was the worse night ever.. I spent one night from hell. thought I was going to get away from all the fourth of July city noise. instead of spending a nice quiet day with the family enjoying nature it turned out to be worse night ever, neighbors were so rude, was going to take my puppy for a nice nature walk when suddenly one came out to get away from his trailer I thought we were able to walk around and enjoy the lake views without any body getting upset. at night they started blowing fire works right in front of my tent till almost 1: am and they stopped. I guess they had a competition because at exactly 3:00 am they started again. don't get me wrong I like the fire works as much as the next person but come on not in my ear, and till a certain hour. my whole intention was to go and relax with the family. To top it all off the people next to us thought he owned the park only cause he had people just visiting him he came out and told us we couldn't park our cars in front of our campsite because just in case his visitor wanted to play out doors . witch we paid for those spots and his friends were just visiting. worst weekend from hell. !!!!!!!!!! to top it all of the fire works burned so many holes in my tent that I cant even re-use again

We are seasonal campers. Our neighbors are nice and respectful. The owners of 4 Star Campground have made many improvements. We are happy with the proximity to Starved Rock and other Illinois Valley attractions. There are residential campers who are friendly. I've read other comments on various review sites about Four Campground; see for yourself and form your own opinion.

I've stayed at better looking campground then this stayed there for a desnation wedding with a large group for off roading at Cliffs off roading insane terraine . By far not on my list to come back. Campsites were to close to each other. the fishing pound was dirty and smelly. The women's wash room was dark kinda clean but needs some serious updating. The ceiling was falling down and the shower drains were clogging up and toilet stalls are small hard to move around. I realize that most of the visitors are camper and RV's and they have there own bathrooms. But the guests that are tenting they need to use the bathrooms, I was disgusted with the faculties. This place needs a serious Face left

A Work in Progress

We spent a couple of days at the primitive tent camping area. This is an older facility that seemed to be undergoing renovations. The men and women's showers were small but clean as was the flush toilet area. Hot water was available and there was no charge to shower or use the pool. The pool was small and had clean, blue water in which kids were busy having a good time. Laundry facilities are available for a charge.

The tent camping sites were unimproved, with a couple having picnic tables. We snagged ours from another site. Fire rings were non-existent or rock rings, which was pretty cool. Most sites had enough room for two tents. We had a choice between wooded and field sites. There was a moderate incline of the ground to deal with on most sites, but it was not unmanageable. There was a porta-potty available in the primitive area that was clean, well ventilated and always stocked with tp.

Firewood was a little pricey at ten bucks but we got twelve pieces of very nice wood. Not the shakes you can purchase at the gas station, but honest to goodness thick pieces of wood. It turned out it was more then enough for a very cheery fire!

Upsides: Very friendly staff, we dealed with Janette the first day and another friendly lady when we decided to stay a second nite. A great deal of evidence the new owners were busy cleaning out the area of junk and old trash. The primitive area was sparsely populated during our stay with only a bit of litter from previous campers on our site. The surrounding woods were full of downed wood making your own firewood collecting feasible. We bagged our garbage and a staffer came and collected it at our site! Dumpsters were available at the front.

Downsides: I pointed out a clogged flush toilet the day of my arrival that still had not been fixed when we left two days later. I believe that many of the RV sites are occupied by full-time residents, giving that area a central Illinois hillbilly flavor. Minor inconvenience of having to ask for firewood twice. No garbage containers were in the primitive area. In mid-August, the fishing pond needed an algae treatment, as it choked the shoreline to a dozen feet out. It may be that it isn't so bad earlier in the year.
