I chose family medicine because I wanted to be a well-rounded provider. I wanted to put my knowledge from school to use, whether it's women's health or pediatrics or geriatrics or mental health. I wanted to be that point of contact who patients feel comfortable with. I see patients at all stages of life, from newborn all the way up until geriatrics. I enjoy seeing all of them. It's important to feel comfortable with your provider and trust them with your children, your parents and yourself. The most important skill a primary care provider can have is listening, being able hear people's concerns from start to finish. It?s something all providers need ? it makes patients comfortable and helps you form lasting relationships. I suggest all patients participate in preventive medicine, like mammograms, colonoscopies or vaccinations. These truly do save lives. So sit down and have an honest conversation with your provider. They're always there to help.
