I opened an account about 1.5 years ago and the employees have always been nice and never had an issue with any teller saying they will put a hold on my deposit or being rude in any way shape or form. But....
I debated putting this up and switching banks for the last week and a half. I'm disabled and need a local bank yet my husband is not disabled and this credit union is too small to handle all of our personal and business accounts. We looked into giving all of our business to Midwest Members Credit Union but they just can't handle what we need, so I opened up an account to where my direct deposit goes in Midwest Members which the Maryville location is within driving distance of home to do small, personal business. When I drove to Wood River, IL the other day to make a deposit is when I decided that the manager has done more damage than can be rectified.
I had my husbands personal check for $350 or so (his name is on the account). The manager of the location stated she was going to place a hold on my deposit. When I asked why, she said it was because she has authorization to do so and she can do whatever she wants. She said, us as tellers are responsible if a check was to come back. When I mentioned I had direct deposit and asked to speak with a teller I'm used to working with, she became worse..."I'm above her, she is just a teller." Really? No team member should think they are above anyone-if the toilet needs clean, clean it, even if your name is on the building! A manager shouldn't ever think they are better than their employees or customers and shouldn't act in such a way ever! I was disgusted in how her customer service is so rude and belittling. One of the worst resting b.... faces I've ever seen for no reason except she must of been having a bad day and decided to pay it forward to customers. She did end up putting in the deposit and said I didn't see you had direct deposit but it was after much rude interruption to me trying to talk...she wanted to run the show and her way was the only way. So why make decisions without looking at the account? Why be so rude? Is it because the person I had with me was in PJ pants? Did I not look right? Why when there is 1.5 years of history on my account and after looking into the account, there is suddenly no issues.
When I opened the account and added direct deposit, I was told I should not have an issue with using the account unless the check being deposited is a large amount. I have deposited checks for over $2,000 that looked shady (a check that came in the mail and who knows if the company is legit-I expected a hold, yet no issues.)
I will be closing my account and moving banks. What a shame that your manager can be this rude and have such an effect on customers.
Rude management will not get you anywhere. See ya, my business doesn't belong with you! It will be a pain, but I will switch to another local bank in the coming month as I switch direct deposit and direct withdrawals to close the account. My car is with this bank, but this will be the last one and I am frankly upset enough to look into paying $1500 to refinance the loan just so I don't have to deal with this bank ever again.
