The Mayville State Bank opened its doors in 1885 as the Bank of Mayville in the small rural community of Mayville, Mich. Joseph Eveland, Thomas (T.J.) Eveland and Henry Knickerbocker founded it with Abel Eveland joining in 1891. The Evelands opened the Bank of Fostoria that year, which Abel operated until his death in 1931.
