The Madeira School is a college preparatory boarding and day school for girls, and is located in McLean, Va. The school offers classes to students in grades nine and 10, and serves more than 50 students. Its curriculum includes French, English, language, mathematics, science, social studies and history, fine and performing arts, computer and physical education. The school s facility includes cafeteria, media center, computer and science laboratories, activity room and a playground. It has chess, math and drama, French language clubs, and also has a band and chorus. The school s sports activities include cross-country, field hockey, soccer, basketball, volleyball, squash, swimming and diving, tennis, lacrosse, riding, and track and field. The school s student council maintains the school fund-raising calendar, advises and works with administration, sponsors community services, such as blood drives and hosts the annual winter carnival. It provides counseling, tutorials, health care, transportation and meal services to students.
