Founded in 1989, Tillman Station, also known as the Central Precinct, covers an area of more than 25 square miles and includes over 90,000 residents. It is managed by the Memphis Police Department, which is governed by The City of Memphis in Tennessee. The Memphis Police Department offers investigative services that is comprised of crimes against persons and crimes against property investigative bureaus, felony response and crime scene investigation. It has a traffic division that operates through Special Traffic Investigation Squad, Motorcycle Squad, Special Traffic Enforcement Unit, and Police Service Technicians sections. The department also manages a training academy that includes a gymnasium, seat auditorium, breakout rooms, and video production and computer laboratories. It has handled more than 850,000 calls.
