The Kaiser Family Foundation is a non-profit, private foundation dedicated to providing information and analysis on health care issues to policymakers, the media, the health care community, and the general public. It focuses providing research and information for a variety of health issues, including AIDS research, prescription drugs, minority health and health coverage for the uninsured. It develops and runs its own research and communications programs, including health policy and media and public education. Through policy research and communications programs, the foundation works to provide reliable information in a health system in where issues are increasingly complex and the nation faces difficult challenges and choices. The Kaiser Family Foundation is headquartered in Menlo Park, Calif., and operates a public affairs center in Washington, D.C. The foundation was established in 1948 by Henry J. Kaiser, a prominent American industrialist known as the father of modern shipbuilding.
