I'd have to say this is THE RUDEST n WORST service I have ever had. I called at 7 cuz we were on our way down from Fresno to eat. The lady said that they weren't taking reservations because 4 of their grill tables were down. I told here that we wouldn't b there for a hour and she said, Oh,perfect... It slows down then and there won't b a problem getting u in as long as u r here by 8:30. We get there @. 8 and the hostess says, the tables are closed and we can't seat u. I told her what I was told on the phone and she said, Well, u can't b seated.. TABLES R CLOSED! She didn't care, didn't apologize. I've been wanting to go here for years, but never again. We walked out and drove down the road to the branding iron. They were so nice and accommodating, because at that point our little one was really hungry. It will never matter what the food is like, if we r treated so rudely, I'd never give them my business or recommendation. THANK U BRANDING IRON

skip the tepan yaki and order yourself a nice roll of sushi. you'll save money and disappointment. not horrible, just not good. (tepan yaki) sushi on the other hand is great and I love to order for pickup, try the Lees special!

Went there with my family last night, we really liked the place and food. The Chef was funny and my kids really enjoyed the show. The waitress recommended the Jerry Special roll and it was delicious! I have not been to a better restaurant in Merced. I will be back for sure, my kids are already asking to go back.

Food tastes good. But the automosphere is soap and price is too expensive.

This was our first time going here and I must say our experience was horrible. First, we made reservations and were not seated until over an 1hr. later because they were short-handed on chefs (hmm, why not have the courtesy of calling us), if we would have been late they would have cancelled us. The hostess appeared to not know what she was doing. When we were finally seated we still had to wait about a half hr. to have the first course, the food was good, and the chef was excellent. The chef's is probably the only people saving this place, because without them this place would totally SUCK!, even our chef said this place was not a real teppan-yaki. Later on, we found out that 2 chef's week the previous week (makes you wonder why?). Normally when people have this bad of experience the manager gives some kind of discount, to make up for poor service; this manager didn't want too and didn't want to come talk to us. In the end he gave us 5% (what a slap in the face). We do eat out often and we've NEVER had this bad of experience as we had at pocket 8's. I wonder if Jerry Yang is aware of what is going on at his restaurant or if he even cares. I don't recommend eating at this restaurant or better yet wasting your time. Great new sushi place in town. The best so far even though we don't have a lot.

I went there for lunch today and I was delighted with the food and the atmosphere. It should be a MUST on your "bucket list" of places to try in Merced. The waitresses are still a bit green, but the food and the cooks are great.
