The Merrimack Police Department preserves human lives and property, protects public peace and the rights of citizens, prevents crime and disorder, and enforces local, state and federal laws. The department maintains a citizens police academy that provides training programs related to laws, firearms instruction, defensive tactics, first aid, patrol procedures and investigations. It conducts neighborhood watch program, which is a well-organized group of citizens that encourages residents to assist the police department. The department supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. The Merrimack Police Department has been operational for more than 60 years and is located in Merrimack, N.H.
